Product Description

Product Description

RUN LIKE HELL is an emotional and lively account, told with Matt Beardshall's customary frankness, humour and a remarkable eye for detail. Matt draws the reader through wet peat bogs and ancient Yorkshire myths, all the way to the dizzy commercial heights of the New York marathon. However, Fate deals his wife a huge blow that impacts on Matt, his running and everything around him. It reveals life itself to be an ultra-marathon. The story is one of hope, determination, motivation and endurance, and the climax is uplifting. RUN LIKE HELL proves that no matter how fast we are we can never outpace our destinies.

Amazing! 18 Oct 2010
By Anna
More than anything else - this is an uplifting story about life's highs and lows and it left me very moved. There is something about the way that Matt Beardshall writes which makes everything seem very "real". This is not some poncy arrogant runner telling you that you have to run every day and eat x, y and z. There are some great running stories - an absolute joy to read but there is also some pretty raw details of his wife's cancer battle.

I read this - in one go - cried my little eyes out - and then went running.

Could not recommend it more.

Having read Matt Beardshall's first book 'Coast to Coast', I couldn't wait to get my hands on 'Run Like Hell'. It truly is an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish and I found that I couldn't leave this book down (except to go running in the wind, rain, frost and mud of course!).

There is something in the way that the Author writes that makes the words on the page come to life and become so very real. For me, it hammers home that the victory is not so much in the end result but in the way that the battle is fought. Human endurance is an incredible thing, whether battling a horrible disease or a fighting up that last mountainous climb, a strong mental attitude can overcome the most daunting of situations.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Thank you very much Matt for a truly inspiring read. Hopefully we will not have to wait too long for a third installment? The very best of luck to you and your courageous wife for the future.

A Must Read 2 Nov 2010
By Teresa
I read Matt's last book and was looking forward to this one's release.

Having lost parents, aunts and friends to cancer, I found the story of his wife's battle incredibly difficult to read and really felt for all the family but found their strength and determination amazing and felt as relieved and pleased to see them come through and out the other side running and fit again as you possibly can when you've never met the person - I was left feeling like a good friend had won the battle.

Matt's running exploits show him as a human making judgment errors rather than an elite runner and it makes his successes all the more enjoyable to read.

As a middle of the pack runner who has not run more than a half marathon race, Matt's writing is an enticing invitation that pulls at the subconscious making me want to try the routes he describes in a vivacious and colourful way and to achieve the miles and successes for myself.

A book that takes you through a rollercoaster of emotions and events, taking your tears, laughter and admiration as you go through it and leaving you wishing there was more when you've finished it.
