Amazon.co.uk Review
Running might not be having a good time but be honest--who can say they have never looked at one of those super-fit types as they breeze around the park on sunny mornings, looking fresh as daisies in their teensy weensy vests and shorts and wondered "how on earth" (not to mention "why on earth") they do it?
The truth is, running is not for everyone--as anyone with even a minor knee injury or a sore back will testify--but if you decide that it might just be the right form of exercise for you then you can remain smug in the knowledge that you have chosen the one that burns the most calories in the shortest time, tightens up legs, bums and tums faster than any weight's regime, and gives your heart the best workout it can get.
Dave Kuehls, with an impressive fitness writing CV tucked under his belt, including stints with Sport's Illustrated, Men's Health, GQ and Runner's World, certainly evangelises about all these points in Run Away From Fat: a book designed to gradually build running time over a period of 90 days until eventually you are getting a 40-minute run every day and leaving the weight well and truly behind.
It is simple to follow: the programme is designed to be dealt with one day at a time, so the reader is encouraged not to skip pages but to simply follow the daily instructions and then complete the log at the end of each chapter. Every day you run a little further, learn a little more about what shoes to wear, what clothes to run in and, later, what to eat to maintain the inevitable weight loss and to add fuel to a body that, within 90 days, should be superfit.
Be warned: if you loath the thought of strict regimes, have any kind of injury that could be exacerbated by running, or simply prefer a gentler form of exercise then you should certainly steer clear of Run Away From Fat.
However, 90 days may seem like a life time but in terms of changing your life around it is a very short time indeed, and Run Away From Fatcertainly aims to do just that. So, if running is the route for you, then Kuehls' words of wisdom could well make all the difference. --Susan Harrison
