I first read this book when i was about 11 years old, and have ever since been desparate to find a copy so that i can own it at home. The story is about a young girl who finds out her brother is dying of cancer. ok, so it doesn't exactly sound a fun read, but believe me you will be gripped. it is an excellent introduction for young people to imagine what things really would be like. Emotive, imaginative and beautifully written.

brings back memories

I remembering reading this book when i was like ten and even though the years have gone by, it still remains one of my favourites. The story takes a grab of you and almostly instantly you feel for the characters ups and downs,happy moments and heartbreaks and trials that few humans go through on a daily basis. Pick it up and you will never let it go.....

I read this book when I was very young and it has stayed very close to my heart for many years. Even now at 21 I am desperately looking for a copy. This book was the first book to make me cry all those years ago and it made me realize the power of reading. Thank you Mary Pope Osborne for givong me the gift to love books. I search in anticipation for another book to move me so.

One of my favorite pre-teen books

I read this when I must have been like 11-12... a gripping, tear-jerking story of a girl whose younger brother bears a fatal disease. Really gets into her mind and widened my consciousness as a youngster. Reall poignant.
Why no paperback? I would love my little cousins to read this one! :(
