Rags to riches is all very well, until a debt is recalled in this tale,
By
This review is from: Rumpelstiltskin (First Fairy Tales) (Paperback)
from the FIRST FAIRY TALES SERIES of books.
From the back cover:- 'The king wants the farmer's daughter to spin straw into gold. An impossible task! But will the strange little man who jumps in through the window be able to help her?' Durable hard-cover boards open to 32 high quality shiny pages in the popular 2-page spread format. Illustrated throughout giving plenty of scope for interaction and meaningful expressions help to promote that eagerness to turn the page, to see what happens next! Numbered pages with easy-to-follow text, enhanced in places, FOR EFFECT! Example of text:- 'Once upon a time, there was a foolish farmer who had a beautiful clever daughter. One day, the farmer went to the palace and started to show off. He said to the king, "I have a beautiful daughter!" But the king took no notice. So the farmer said, "And she's clever! She can........ SPIN STRAW INTO GOLD!".....' Well, that certainly gets the king's attention as he is VERY partial to gold! However, the poor daughter is not as resourceful as her father makes out and is grateful for the kindness of another`s remarkable ability............but it comes at a price. However.... promises are promises as we find out .....when he who helped out when it was needed most .....returns to call in the final debt .........and a rather interesting compromise is reached! There are a number of `FIRST FAIRY TALES' titles to choose from and these are listed on the very last page. And if you have read all of them, there is a short list of `COLOUR CRACKERS' titles, too!

Enjoyed,
This review is from: Rumpelstiltskin (First Fairy Tales) (Paperback)
Both my 5 year old daughter and myself throughly enjoyed the book. I purchased it after telling her my favourite fairy tale as a child (long before Disney Princesses !). She thought the story was funny, illustrations are also good.
