A Rumour of War is a recognized classic in the field of Vietnam War literature. It is held in the highest regard by knowledgable readers of all opinions about this war because of its accuracy and brutal honesty. One need not get too far into it in order to perceive the nobility and courage with which Caputo discharged his duty. Unfortunately, that did not protect him from the horrors caused by the ambigous nature of a counter-insurgent operation. This book hardly needs my humble endorsement, which I offer, so readers coming across this stray listing don't miss out on one of the greats of the literature of Vietnam.
