5.0 out of 5 stars A high quality album, 27 Mar 2004

(No. 1 Hall OF FAME REVIEWER)    (TOP 10 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Rumour Has (Audio CD)
The style of this album moves further away from traditional country than Reba had gone before, but it was very successful commercially. The nineties proved to be very successful for Reba and this 1990 album set the pattern for those that followed.

This album has many excellent songs, particularly the two number one country hits - the title track (a song questioning a man's faithfulness) and You lie (in the man is definitely unfaithful). The third single, a cover of Fancy, also made the country top ten. Bobbie Gentry wrote and originally recorded Fancy, a song about a girl forced into prostitution by poverty but who eventually made good.

The album opens with Climb that mountain high, an inspirational song, but most of the songs here deal with relationship difficulties. Now you tell me (about a man's desire to return to an ex-partner) and This picture (about a woman who destroys all the physical pictures of a man but can't get his picture out of her mind) are the most interesting to me.

This is a high quality album, as I expect from Reba.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Reba's best, 12 Jun 1998

Reba's vocals on this album outshine any other. 'Climb that Mountain High' (inspired by the movie 'Tremors' which Reba co-starred in) is great. My absolute favorites from the album are 'Rumour has it' and 'You Lie'. It is said that it took two singers to reach the vocal heights that Reba did in making this song. 'Waitin' for the Deal to go down' is an upbeat, catchy song about a woman waiting to get an engagement ring from someone who is not about to go that far ! 'You Remember Me' is a sad song about a break up. A break up is a hard thing to handle, but Reba's voice seems to be saying that she knows all about it. Another unforgettable song is 'Fancy' a song about a young girl abandoned by her mother into a life of prostitution, but the girl makes the best of it and turns her life around. Along with 'This Picture' (a song about breaking up and ridding the house of all photos); 'Now you tell me (now that there's somebody new)' about a lover who comes back just as she's settling into a new life and 'Fallin' out of love' a song about starting over; this makes it the most played album in my collection.

For any country fan it is a must !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Rumor Has It" will go down as one of the BEST!, 30 Sep 2005
By ceejay - Published on Amazon.com

This CD is loaded with amazing songs that ONLY REBA could sing! She belts out ballads like "You Lie" and "Falling Out Of Love" each hiting the #1 mark! Reba also tears open the heart on the title track "Rumor Has It"! Let's not forget her signature song, "Fancy" is one of the most recognizable songs in music! With this CD, Reba proves she can do it all! She even co-wrote the album opener "Climb That Mountain High" It's no wonder the album has sold over 3 million copies, it's a masterpiece!
