Product Description

It seemed the perfect stunt to save the ailing Adventure Channel. When a famed anthropologist disappears in the middle of a formidable African jungle while searching for a legendary--and reportedly bloodthirsty--"lost tribe," fading star Max Carrington and his bumbling television crew swiftly set off to find him. Their goal: bring him back, alive or dead, documenting every moment along the way for a blockbuster television event. Back home, their dramatic live video dispatches from the middle of the jungle swiftly become the media sensation of the moment. But when members of the crew start disappearing as well, they realize too late that much more than the network's fortunes are at risk...

About the Author

Rumors of Savages was inspired by Carrie Regan's own adventures working on documentaries for National Geographic Television. Over the course of a decade, she's trekked into distant African jungles to track chimps with Jane Goodall, searched for monster pythons in the Congo, camped in the Sahara and on the flanks of an active Guatemalan volcano, and helped locate the "Afghan Girl," subject of the famous National Geographic Magazine cover. She's also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa and volunteer park ranger. Carrie currently lives in Washington, DC, and can be reached via www.rumorsofsavages.com.

3.0 out of 5 stars Jungle Adventure Thriller 29 Sep 2012

Not sure if this is a first novel, but the author's experience of working on the National Geographic channel add a touch of authenticity to her depiction of the "behind the scenes" wrangles and interplay between the TV Executives and Film Crew of the fictional "Adventure Channel" featured in this novel.

The characters of the crew members are lightly drawn, but credible. The plot doesn't contain a lot of surprises, but it jogs along at a lively enough pace to keep you interested. I was a little disappointed when the "villain" of the piece was revealed, I was hoping for a more interesting solution to the mystery of the disappearing crew members. However it was generally a good (if undemanding) read, and I'd certainly be prepared to try out any future offerings by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read! 18 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book and it was something a little different to the usual mystery novels out there. I loved the setting and the incorporation of what extreme travelling can do to the mind, and I empathized with the characters laying awake at night and wondering whether they can hear animals or the dreaded cannibal tribe.

The characters were interesting and well-developed, even ones such as the NBC intern and Bruce Warner's assistant who do not feature heavily. Coupled with the well-described jungle and tense atmosphere, this was a fantastic book which was a shame to put down upon finishing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many acronyms 9 Aug 2012

Read the book, I was a little thrown by the style of the author but I persevered and quite enjoyed it although there are too many acronyms the reader is supposed to understand but unless one is brought up in the ghetto they remain a mystery....to me anyway.
