Product Description

Product Description

Fourteen-year-old Rusty-James runs one of the meanest gangs in his neighbourhood, his reputation safe mainly because his brother is the widely-feared Motorcycle Boy. But while his brother is now a loner who shuns gangs and fighting, Rusty-James is desperate to belong. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Back Cover

In the violent ganglands of urban America, Rusty-James at 14 has one burning ambition: to be like his fearless brother the Motorcycle Boy. But the Motorcycle Boy is through with gangs: ‘It wasn’t anything like you think it was. It was just a bunch of punks killing each other, like rumble fish, those Siamese fighting fish who’d kill each other if they could’.

But Rusty-James has to defend his own reputation for toughness and his blind desire leads in the end to an explosive and tragic climax.

Dependence 19 Dec 2000

Format:Paperback
This book is one of S. E. Hinton's great novels which all show the different aspects of teenage life. This book shows how everyone is dependent and everyone needs to fall back on someone when they get into a mess and she displays this with Rusty-James alwyas needing the Motorcycle Boy to get him out of trouble. A great book, especially if you like Hinton's other books which I do a lot.

Deep 7 May 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
My main reason for writing a review is that I was disappointed to see how low this book had been rated to date. Hinton's books are never cheery. Rumble Fish is no exception. It's deep and sad. Another story about kids having to grow up without the right direction and parental care. It's a very quick and easy read. No, it's not a classic like Jane Eyre, but it's real and once again Hinton captures teen angst from the wrong side of the tracks.

It was not the edition advertised in the picture and it looked like a nasty 70's annual. Very tatty. I have been hoodwinked. I have read the outsiders and love the film rumblefish so I am not slating the artist but the people who sent me a real tatty edition.
