4.0 out of 5 stars Good read, helpful insights, hilarious reviews 2 Nov 2012

Think this is well written and highly usable. I need to reread it really to have a good sense of how applicable the advice is to me as a writer but overall I think it's well worth a look. Reading McKee completely freed me up to write - not to write well, perhaps, but to write at all. I like the stance of this book mostly for this reason - it's not trite old rehashing from people who talk but don't DO.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and encouraging 30 April 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a very enjoyable read from cover to cover and equally useful as a reference work. The author manages to be knowledgeable, with lots of in depth examples, but at the same time accessible and friendly. The approach is very balanced, with reasons given for adherence to the "rules" as well as the benefits of breaking them. This gives the reader a sense of empowerment and is encouraging to anyone taking their first steps as a writer, although there is plenty here to interest experienced practioners as well. Excellent.
