The basis behind this book is simple- having been let down by a certain low fares airline and left with a 300-euro hotel bill, Paul Kilduff decided to get his own back on the budget airlines and see Europe with a budget of just 300 euros. 'Ruinair' is the story of that attempt- part travelogue, part investigation, Kilduff makes a point of seeing the actual places that budget airlines fly to- so Charleroi rather than Brussels, Beauvais rather than Paris, and so on. Although the book could easily have become a hatchet job, the book does leave you with a sense of just how many diverse places there are in Europe and how cheaply you can get there- if you're lucky! If nothing else, the short chapters and Kilduff's entertaining style make for good, lively light reading for bedtime- or a long flight on a discount airline???
