2.0 out of 5 stars What a disapointment!!!!! 26 Aug 2011
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Ok biggest gripe, it feels as if it is the same as the last rugby game but with less features! It is soley based around the world cup yet you don't get New Zealand!! (You do, but they aren't licensed so no carter, dagg etc) Australia isn't licensed either! So you have a game that is based soley around international rugby that is missing (arguably) two of the top teams!! If they couldn't have got the licenses in my opinion they shouldn't have even bothered with the game as it is nothing to write home about anyway. In my own opinion it is a worse game than the PS2 variants. Lineouts are now completely chance, from an attacking point of view, there is absolutely no skill involved i.e timing the jump. You still can't take a quick grubber or make a cheaky chip and chase without knocking on. You have huge gaps in your defence that I haven't seen still playing at U11's level!! Finally your 1/2 backs couldn't be anymore static on taking control of the ball, the only saving grace is that they don't start running backwards!!!!

My fingers are crossed for Jonah Lomu's Rugby Challenge!

1.0 out of 5 stars RUBBISH 26 Aug 2011
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3

this is simply not good enough

lazy on almost every level, its almost a carbon copy of 08 but without having the saving grace of featuring the best two teams in the world, australia and new zealand!

terrible graphics and gameplay inherited from 08, which was bad enough for a 2007 ps2 game but for this day and age what is essentially a re-release should probably be done under the trade descriptions act.

im returning my copy

cant believe ea etc expect to be able to fob me off with this rubbish!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money 26 Aug 2011
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3

Exactly the same as rugby 08 on the ps2 except you only have the option of the world cup tournament. A number of teams don't have the actual player names. The squads are tiny and wrong, I.e strettle and danny care for England. Takes about half an hour to win the world cup. Complete waste of money.

The online play is literally just match play, you cant do the tournament online.

Ea should take a leaf out of Tom hanks book and refund the people who wasted there money buying it. I hope rugby 2012 is a massive improvement.

3.0 out of 5 stars Its an arcade game, not an indepth simulation! 10 Jan 2012

And as long as you keep those few words in mind then you should be fine.

Ill be honest, this game is my guilty pleasure :) I play it because I want to play an arcade game and just like real rugby, Id rather watch an absolute slaughter of a blood bath than one of those epic nil all draws!

The negatives...no All Blacks. Yes its a sin BUT handily the game still has an editor so you can change the names about. It shouldnt be like this BUT that other rugby game released last year got the rights to the mighty Blackness name! So whats a person to do? Invest a little time and update the squad with the correct names. I know, life isnt fair but if life was fair we wouldnt have 3/4 of South Africa's male population vowing vengence for being knocked out of the world cup and Australians wouldnt have the worlds worst accent!

Then there are the game play elements...quick line outs taken by the opposition are a pain in the backside! To counter this you just need to make sure your kicks for touch go a long way in to touch (so the player cant get the pill and throw it in). And yes, lineouts are hard BUT if you get the timing right you can nab the oppositions throw in. Maybe there are some unreasonable expectations though? You arent going to nab every throw, just like in Real Life (tm) and it does seem that the lower the teams skill level, the higher the likelyhood of you stealing their throw? Of course I base this on the same kind of science that goes in to Mann Made Global Warming (tm) climate science...so I could just be making that up! :)

And yes, its does seem overly simple to side step around a player to score...and how the hell does the AI always manage to have a full back back in defence!?! And why cant I gang tackle people goddammit!

1.0 out of 5 stars Lacking in every department 14 Sep 2011
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
This is easily the worst rugby game I have ever played. I have been waiting since Rugby08 for a decent rugby game to come out, and when I heard the news of this I preordered it immediately. However, within 2 games I was already bored. The graphics are poor, the game play is even worse, the computer is too predictable, and even on the hardest setting the game does not pose much of a challenge. I would rather them have not bothered. If the first Jonah Lomu game is anything to go by, I would suggest waiting a few more weeks until that comes out. Also, considering it is a game based around the world cup, they don't even have the majority of world cup players on the game! To summarise in two words...DON'T BOTHER!

2.0 out of 5 stars Honest review 28 Aug 2011

After waiting for ages for a rugby game on the ps3, i can't help but feel let down, disappointed and cheated.

The graphics are not much better than rugby 08. Everything feels rushed. The cutscenes are blocky, no player likeness, players skin colours wrong. The crowd all wear same clothing and wave at the same time.

Gameplay is very similar to rugby 08. The annoying habits are here still. Bunch of players chasing the ball, nothing feels new or updated.

The biggest worry for myself is the lifespan of the game. After playing the world cup ( I won it on day 1 on medium ) you are left with nothing else to do. There is no league, no manager mode or club teams. Surely a 6 nations, tri nations or lions tour would have given the game extra legs. There is no create team, no create player or create league/cup. It wasconfirmed on the HB studio forum that there will be no downloadable content for this game either. So no chance of creating teams etc coming either. Online has a few bugs, lags in play and freezing. This will prob be fixed by a update.

I appreciate that HB studios couldn't get all the licenses. Australia and new Zealand missing license amongst others. However it is still a disappointment. With no club teams either a create team option is clearly needed. Even a bunch of generic teams to customise would have been better.

I followed the HB forum and I got the impression we were supposed to be grateful that HB were making a rugby game, having paid for it I now feel cheated with a lazy developed game. In summary I'd say that waiting for a rugby game has been like waiting for a bus. Wait for ages then 2 come along. Unfortunately the first one is a shed! I would have given it 1 star, itgets 2 purely due to fact that i can play rugby on ps3! Hopefully Jonah lomu rugby challenge will be better.
If you have a ps3 that plays ps2 games I'd save your money and play rugby 08 till Jonah lomu rugby challenge comes out in September.
