5.0 out of 5 stars Rude Awakenings, 12 Oct 2010
This review is from: Rude Awakenings: Two Englishmen on Foot in Buddhism's Holy Land (Paperback)
A great read by a Theravadan monk Ajahn Sucitto who is an Abott in a Buddhist monastery in Hampshire and Nick Scott a lay person. Two different views of their shared journey to the holy land, it shows that two perception of the same situation is interpreted differently through two sets of eyes. This is my 7th book as they make great presents for any occasion. Great read, fun and exciting....give it a go! The book was recommended to me before I decided to go on a hiking/meditation holiday to Crete in 2008 led by Nick Scott and Ajahn Karuniko both unknown to me then, confirmed his big personality which comes through his writing, great presence and most enjoyable.

I highly enjoyed reading this book. The contrast between Nick Scott & Ajahn Sucitto is what makes this book great. I'd highly recommend it and can't wait until the continuation of the story is released - hurry up Wisdom !!

5.0 out of 5 stars A book that you will read over and over..., 28 Aug 2006
By Cold Mountain - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Rude Awakenings: Two Englishmen on Foot in Buddhism's Holy Land (Paperback)
This is one of my favourite books of all time. You will laugh, you will cry and then you will be glad that you read this book. The authors write from their hearts and you almost feel like you are on the journey with them. They talk about their journey in India and also this journey called life. Buy it. Read it. Lend it to your family and friends. This book deserves a place in your home and heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars There are many pearls hidden inside!, 2 Dec 2006
By Mark Meyer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Rude Awakenings: Two Englishmen on Foot in Buddhism's Holy Land (Paperback)
This is a lovely book! It really seems like a genuine account of the travels of these 2 guys through "Mother India," which seems a little too, um, rough for my likes in travel. Yet it is just a great book!

I was especially Ajahn Sucitto's words, which contained many wonderful pearls of wisdom, especially when he speculates about mental processes, meditation, what the Buddha really did under the Bodhi tree, and so forth.

This is a must-read for people who love "travel Buddhism," as I do!!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Buddhist Odd Couple go on a religious pilgrimage, 19 Aug 2010
By op2myst - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Rude Awakenings: Two Englishmen on Foot in Buddhism's Holy Land (Paperback)
English Buddhist monk and Buddhist layperson take a long, mostly ambulatory visit to important Buddhist religious sites. They alternate descriptions of people, places, and events, each in their distinct, authentic, individual voice. They also subtley nit-pick at each other as do most people in close contact for an extended time. The contrast in their perceptions and their honesty makes this an interesting read.
