Ruby's School Walk 19 Aug 2010
By S Riaz TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ruby is nervous about school and, on the way there, she imagines all kind of dangers lurking which mum explains. This is a very good book, lovely story and great idea. I am not sure it would be helpful to all children though, as it doesn't actually deal with school issues and rather general fear of the idea of school. The story stops at the classroom, when Ruby goes in, so we don't go through a school day with her. Also, of course, more children are driven to school than walk these days. Saying that, as a story my 3 year old daughter loved it. She also liked the little map at the front of the book, which is a good idea and lovely detail.

I have to say, this is a super book and much used here in our storytelling club within school.
The colours and the illustrations are simply wonderful, creating a warm and inviting book to read.
The idea of art and storytelling together works so well - the children love the colourful images and soft words to tell the story. As a mum, it takes me right back to the days when my own children first started school, the sadness of leaving them for the first time, the worry until it was time to collect them again and the adventures we had on our walk to schol and back home again. This gentle book for young readers tells the story of a walk to school and everything that a child can and does encounter along the way. It's a special read for a special time in a young person's life.

A reassuring read 19 Oct 2010
By Parents in Touch TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
Who do you meet on the way to school? Perhaps a cat, or a dog? Ruby meets a prowling tiger and mighty beasts. Will she ever get to school? As soon as I picked up this book and saw the endpapers in the form of a child's exercise book, I just knew this book was going to be great fun! Mum has a matter-of-fact explanation for everything but Ruby just knows there are dangers lurking everywhere. And when she gets to school she is reassured to know she will be doing all sorts of exciting things. A lovely warm, reassuring read for young children who all have imaginary fears. Vibrantly illustrated, and written with a real understanding of children, this is a super book to share with your child.
