Book Description

26 Mar 2004 Taschen Basic Art Series
The Flemish baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens, born on June 28, 1577, died May 30, 1640 was the most renowned northern European artist of his day, and and is now widely recognised as one of the foremost painters in Western art history. By completing the fusion of the realistic tradition of Flemish painting with the imaginative freedom and classical themes of Italian Renaissance, he fundamentally revitalised and redirected northern European painting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rubens in brief 3 May 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A great little book that gives an quick introduction to the painter, his life and work. Predominately colour plates throughout which illustrate the masters work well.

Very limited but informative and good place to start. To study Rubens, start with the curves. He portrayed the human form in it's most extreme ability to twist and turn. All comic book artists only dream to compete.
