Book Description

16 Jun 2005
When he graduated to Formula 1 in 1993 Rubens Barrichello looked a potential starr. By 1996 - still grieving the death of his mentor Ayrton Senna - Rubens seemed a 'might have been', struggling with an uncompetitive Jordan. However in 1999, driving for Jackie Stewart, he proved a mature performer and Ferrari beckoned. The Brazilian is a rare mix - tough enough to be Michael Schumacher's fastest-ever team-mate yet so gentle off-track that he is the most popular driver in the paddock. This is his rollercoaster story.

3.0 out of 5 stars He was never meant to be... 26 Oct 2006
By M. Fonseca - Published on
Ruben Barrichello was never meant to be a champion, This unnoficial biography covers his racing career until the end of 2004, before his move to Honda in 2006 and a very disappointing year in Ferrari in 2005.

Although a very competent driver, the move to Ferrari in 2000, to race in the same team of Michael Schumacher, sealed his doom (in terms of ever winning the Championship - but of course it made him a very wealthy man). In Ferrari, he was trapped in a no-win situation, having to contend the already established patterns defined by Schumacher and his team of "conspirators" Ross Brawn, Jean Todt and Rory Byrne. He never had a chance.

But, come the 2006 Season and, in Honda, his team mate Jenson Button finishes the season with 56 points. Barrichello scored 30. Comes 2007, and Button scores 6 points. Barrichello, none at all. He's on his way to retirement, while taking big money from the Japanese, who don't realize he's a spent force in Formula One environment.
