5.0 out of 5 stars Ex Teddy Bear treads where Phil Spector DIDN'T 21 Sep 2009
By Richard
Format:Audio CD
In the Teddy Bears were 2 major talents and Phil Spector was not one of them.
Marshall Leib produced this album in the mid 60s using many of the musicians who Spector had used yet rarely if ever credited.
The album was one of many instrumental ones to use the songs of the Beatles and in particular Rubber Soul via the U S version.
At this time Phil was on a high with the Righteous Brothers. He had no talent as a writer just as a man who had ideas which others had to translate.
On the other hand Carol Connors the 3rd ex Teddy Bear was recording high school pop and writing songs like Hey little Cobra for the Rip Chords. She went on to write music for movies like Rocky and by the 80s it was obvious that she was really the composer of the music for all the Teddy Bears songs bearing the name of Spector (who probably wrote a few words).
You can well imagine Spector in 1958 insisting his name and not hers went on the credits because of what we now know of his nasty nature of using people for his own ends.
Thus Carol Connors (as Annette Kleinbard in 1958)was too placid to argue with him over publishing rights-which were in their infancy and still were at the time of the Beatles.Phil no doubt registered the songs with BMI as his own work.

I've owned this album (in vinyl format) since 1971. It is one of the most delightful instrumental takes on The Beatles music.
