More About the Author

My name is Richard McMunn and I started the 'how2become' series of books back in 2005 when I was working as a Firefighter for Kent Fire & Rescue Service. I initially started selling the books through my website http://www.how2become.com but soon expanded the range on Amazon.

Before joining the Fire Service I spent 4 years in the Fleet Air Arm on-board HMS Invincible. During my career I was heavily involved in recruitment and regularly sat on interview panels in addition to creating recruitment tests and scoring application forms and CV's.

Many of my books not only include details of how to pass a selection process, but I also provide sample responses to the application form questions and also the interview questions. I have helped hundred's of people to secure a job and I believe I can help you to do the same.

My books are created from a desire to help people achieve their goals and I am sure you will find my books inspiring and motivational.

I hope you enjoy my books,

Richard McMunn

I bought this product for my 16 year old son who is mad on joining the Royal Marines. It has really shown himt he work he will have to put into get there and it has given him a huge burst of encouragement to get himself together. Brilliant product.

This book is ideally placed to introduce a young/naive candidate to the psychological expectations of the Royal Marines.

HOWEVER.... I would say for any serious officer candidate considering the Royal Marines, this book will not teach you anything new that you can't already find on the Royal Navy website or in the forums. All of the examples given are related to Richard McMunn's experience in the fire service rather than related to a specific situation in the Royal Marines. Whilst I understand the reasoning for the book being written this way, it would be better served by some example from current or ex-bootnecks.

The most useful parts of the book contain copy and pasted specifications from the Royal Navy website, 90% of the rest is generic waffle to fill pages.

I will not be purchasing any further books by this Author.

As an alternative I would recommend a combination of studying POC/AIB information available the Royal Navy website/local AFCO + a book/TV series on the Royal Marines in general e.g. Commando by Chris Terrill.

There sure is a lot of interesting stuff in this book.

If you wanna become a Royal Marines Officer, like myself, grab yourself a copy. I especially love the Interview Questions and Exercises Section as being prepared will maximise your chances to be accepted.

I highly recommend this book and can't say anything negative about it.

I'd recommend this book for anyone going for selection. Gave me a real edge in confidence. Get someone to do a mock interview for you using the specimen questions.

The contents of this book is mostly information that can be found on the Royal Navy website, often word-for-word (god knows how that isn't somehow illegal). Having it collected all in one book is handy, yes, but the information is not original, and the book is written by someone with very little working knowledge of the Royal Marines.

Clear and concise, really gives you a great insight if you are set on becoming an officer. The book encourages you to do your research and learn about the corps and its history, current affairs and psychometric tests, which will give you the edge when you reach the poc.
