Product Description

Product Description

The Royal Marines were originally formed under the auspices of the Royal Navy to guard its sailing ships from harm. They are proud of their history and origins but the Navy heritage is fading. John Parker's new book charts how the units have moved away from their nautical beginnings to develop, over time, into the most versatile force in the British military, containing one of their most elite brigades. The Royal Marines Commandos have over the past few years developed into the premier fighting organisation on land, sea and air. Lavished with some fabulous equipment, they are trained to the highest degree in a diverse range of skills and officer quality is generally recognised as of the highest order. This history deals with events associated with the Royal Marines and subsequently in their commando role, starring in all of the major conflicts in which the UK became embroiled, including Italy, Malaysia, Cyprus, the Borneo confrontation with Indonesia, and more recently Afghanistan.

John Parker, a journalist and former Fleet Street editor, has undertaken many investigative projects in his writing career with topics ranging from the Mafia to Northern Ireland. 4.0 out of 5 stars Very good for its subject and aim, 7 Jan 2010
This review is from: Royal Marines Commandos: The Inside Story of a Force for The Future (Hardcover)
I bought this as a gift for someone and I know that they were delighted with it. As it was a gift I cannot comment in any detail about the contents, but from the feedback from my friend, and my cursory look through it, it covers the subject well and in an approachable manner.
