Format:Hardcover
I got this book whilst I was working as a gardener, very useful, but it's also excellently useful for reliable detailed information on home herbal use. The second part of the book tells you it's medicinal, commercial and other uses, describes harvest and preparation (and has details such as whether tincture is more effective than distillation of the herb). It has a bonus over some herbalist books which don't give details of what the active components in a plant are, or how to grow them. It also of course comes from a trusted scientific, rather than new age source. I know many new agers may be credible - but the RHS is even more so.

Super book I'd recommend it to anyone with any interest in herbs, even if you don't even intend to grow or use them, just are curious about learning more about the wonderful world we live in.

Decent listing of latin names and growing periods...but... 25 Feb 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
When it comes to the uses of herbs it gives a brief overview of what one could possibly do with the herb without giving measurements or instructions for preparation. Some of the herbs listed could be lethal in large doses, which is the only reason this concerned me. It does, however, have an exhaustive list of common garden plants, their latin names, and information related to their growing and the zones they would grow best in. I turn to it frequently for growing information and as a starter on my research for further medicinal properties or preparation.

A Best Book 4 May 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
If you have an interest in herbs this book is a must-have. It lists even the most obsure plants and gives each a very informative overview that includes both the historical and modern uses. -Linda Fry Kenzle, author of Gathering
