Another lavish yearbook with superb photography, largely devoted to a review of the last season ,beginning with the superlative Bonelli and Nunez on the cover in Wheeldon's new Aeternum. Inside, displaying beautiful lines, are James Hay and the corps in the same work. There are also two photographs of a pyramid of dancers in flesh-tones in Wheeldon's Fool's Paradise. Hamilton and Soares kiss passionately in Macmillan's rarely seen Las Hermanas. Equally passionate are Rojo and Polunin, reunited for Ashton's Marguerite and Armand. Two photographs show that Liam Scarlett has joined the Infra, Chroma style with his energetic Viscera. He is now exclusively a choreographer and enjoyed great success with Hansel and Gretel. We also see Edward Watson delightfully tying himself in knots for the revival of Pita's Metamorphosis! Lamb,Underwood and Hamilton,Hirano show off unusual costumes in McGregor's new Raven Girl. And the ever youthful Acosta appears in The Judas Tree, Requiem, Dowell's Swan Lake and Apollo. Apollos Bonelli and Pennefather (with their partners) are stunning in costumes of various shades of lilac for Robbins's In The Night and Ratmansky's Preludes respectively.... There are fulsome tributes to the retiring Benjamin,Cojocaru,Kobborg and Galeazzi and two interesting articles, one by Gerard Davis on the Corps de Ballet, of whom there are 40, which includes 24 women, who prefer the White Ballets. The men enjoy more Ashton's one-act ballets, Romeo and Juliet and Danse Grand Vitesse! They endure an exhausting rehearsal and performance regime, sometimes practising four different styles in one day. Lucky students of the R.B. school step in when there are injuries!.Perfect lines are essential but the principals also appreciate the generation of energy.Read more ›

I love the Yearbooks as it gives me insight into what is happening at the Royal Ballet. It also keeps me in touch with who has left, some very sadly, who is new and how the younger cast are slowly moving up the ranks. And of course the photographs make me jealous because I will never see these ballets and it doesn't look as if they will ever be put on DVD

I bought this as a stocking filler for my granddaughter. She was delighted with it and I wish I had had more time to read it in depth before I wrapped it up.

I remember Arnold Haskell's Ballet Annuals & thought this publication may be like that . Not at all. Somehow felt it was a cheap edition. Why not hardback.
