Product Description

December 6th 2013 marked the 25th anniversary of the death of Roy Orbison. This tribute draws from over 30 sources as it celebrates the astonishing life and extraordinary music of the singer/songwriter. Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Bob Dylan and countless other pop luminaries revered Roy Orbison: this 5,400 word article explores why the public perception of "The Big O" differs so markedly from that of his peers. It also recounts the dramatic rise, fall and re-birth of his career within the context of the unfathomable suffering that he had to endure. A true American original, Orbison's songs, voice and persona are unique: here, he is celebrated and illuminated.
"Well researched and warmly written" (Mat Snow - editor "Mojo" 1995 - 1999).
"Very interesting, I really enjoyed it" (Simon Hoggart of "The Guardian").

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt Tribute to a Musical Icon 10 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a short but heartfelt tribute to Orbison from a lifelong fan who clearly holds Orbison in great affection. Definitely therefore a tribute rather than an essay of critical impartiality, this nonetheless takes the reader effortlessly and succinctly through the life of one of music's 20th century icons. Well-written and easily informative, I suggest that the reader will need only one visit to appreciate readily both the turbulent life of the subject, as well as the inspiration he gave to many, the author most obviously amongst them.

For anyone remotely interested in the unique musician, Roy Orbison, this is essential reading. Written by Adrian Gregory, this is a tribute to an under acclaimed man who contributed more to musical history than many more glorified names. Adrian Gregory's detailed history of Roy Orbison's career is short, precise and comprehensive. His thoughts on his achievements, tragedies and somewhat belated appreciation by his colleagues are succinctly emphasised. The author adds his own pertinent views. The name of Orbison may bring surprise to today's generation, but he is rightly coveted by his fans and legacy. In the early 1960's, village halls and grander venues were full of bands banging out the latest chart numbers. My brother was one. He tells me that no one would dare approach a Roy Orbison song. His incredulous switch from tenor to falsetto without a pause has never been matched in 'pop' history. The comments in this tribute from legendary names befit the glorious Roy Orbison, his talent, achievements and influence. A superb account of a wonderful man and musician.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than a professional cover 1 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As the saying goes - don't judge a book by its cover but this is the exception to that rule. The cover is fabulous as is the book! Well written indeed, Mr Gregory (who is also known as the Big Chief) shows a side to the Big O previously hidden from the casual observer and fan. Congratulations a wonderful debut

5.0 out of 5 stars An engaging and informative read 8 Aug 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Thank-you to "The Big Chief" for educating the younger generation in such an engaging and informative read to a music icon in the "The Big O", who was clearly a hero and inspiration to the author during the years that many of us around him were growing up and oblivious to the talents of Roy Orbison.

I have no doubt that the interest and anticipated income rightly generated from this fine debut will provide wider access to graphical professionals queuing up to provide Much Finer Covers for future work.
