Product Description

Featuring songs from their critically acclaimed and hugely popular albums, from the bizarre concoctions of ideas and sounds of Roxy Music and For Your Pleasure, to the smooth pop varnish and dance rhythms of Manifesto, Flesh & Blood and Avalon. With songs tackling subjects as diverse as Worl War II and inflatable sex toys, the set ranges the hits Dance Away and Oh Yeah! which won a huge main stream pop audience to Love is The Drug and their biggest success, their No.1 cover of Jealous Guy.

Presented in stunning Dolby stereo sound on DVD, Roxy Music Live at the Apollo includes an insightful documentary containing interviews and behind the scenes footage of the band preparing for their performance at the Apollo.

Reunions by middle-aged rock groups are usually as desirable as unannounced visits by ex-lovers whose former appeal, is now lost. However, as Live at the Apollo demonstrates, the 21st century return of Roxy Music was a much more pleasant surprise, for two reasons. First, Roxy Music did not commit the grotesque self-indulgence, common on occasions such as this, of subjecting their audiences to any new material: the set captured here, at London's Apollo Theatre in October 2001, is hit after hit, delivered with a palpable enthusiasm. Second, and most importantly, even 30 years after their foundation, and 25 years past their creative peak, Roxy Music's songs still sound like they're being phoned back from the future.

On the DVD: Live at the Apollo is presented in 16:9 picture ratio with three sound options: Dolby Digital 5.0 Surround, Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo, and DTS 5.0 Surround. Subtitles are available in English. There is also a 15-minute documentary containing interviews and some rehearsal footage. --Andrew Mueller

Having avoided this tour at the time because i did not want to ruin my memories of having seen Roxy Music in 73,74 and 75, i bought this dvd based on other reviews on this site. At my first viewing i was instantly reminded just what a great band Roxy Music are. The dvd has some spectacular highlights such as 'in every dream home a heartache' and 'both ends burning' but for me it was great to see tracks such as 'editions of you' and 'ladytron' being performed with such energy and feeling. I also liked the the way they finished with 'For your pleasure' as each band member takes their bow and walks off stage while the others continue to play. My only misgiving is the the suspected use of tapes. The violin solo at the end of 'out of the blue' sounds suspiciously like the original on 'country life'. Hmm.

Overall though, 9/10. If you're an old Roxy Music fan and havent seen this dvd - buy it - the memories will come flooding back!

This band wrote the book on style and originality, and they gave it to us mixing musical mayhem with finesse and soul. And never once took themselves too seriously doing it.
And now, 30 years later, out of the blue these geezers pop up on a stage and put on a show that puts any contemporary pretender to shame.
30 years later and they are still ahead of their time.

Anyone, from the most devoted fan to those with a passing interest, should take a look at this fantastic DVD. It's always a risk that a reunion (in this case after a period of 18 years) of the original members of a band could prove an embarrassment to themselves, and leave the fan wishing that Roxy Music as a performing unit were confined to the rosy mists of memory. But this is not the case with this concert.
It leaps in straightaway with "Remake-Remodel", the first track from the first album. By definition, this begins, not in the multilayered FM radio friendly Roxy Music sound of later years, but as a raucous energetic dive into off-kilter rock and roll. As is quite usual with Bryan Ferry, he opens the show behind the piano, off centre. This is Roxy Music, and not the Bryan Ferry show, and each of the original band members - Paul Thompson (drums), Phil Manzanera (guitar), Andy Mackay (woodwind) -get the opportunity to flex their muscles and help show just what made Roxy Music such an original sound. And it's this quirkiness, this originality which makes Roxy Music still worth listening to. No other band has ever sounded quite like them. They have escaped the attentions of the tribute band. The sound and Bryan Ferry's vocals are just too distinctive.
Although the 2001 tour was billed as the "Greatest Hits", in fact it doesn't really play that way, and what a refreshing change that makes too. As Roxy, in their recording careers, progressed towards the monster seller Avalon, the sound became smoother, more soulful, more of a support for the crooning of Ferry. In effect the musicians were becoming in danger of becoming a backing band for Bryan Ferry's vision. The band broke up.

If you became a fan of Roxy in the 70's this is for you. I hate the way some bands change tunes 30 years later, Roxy didn't. A few were speeded up but they were the ones I didn't like ie.The Strand.
A brilliant concert worth owning.

A beautifully-shot and well-recorded memento of the last Roxy Music tour in 2001. Nicely packaged, with DD5.1 and dts, optional on-screen song lyrics and a 17 minute documentary which includes excerpts from the press conference, interviews and rehearsal footage. The tour itself comprises 20 songs and lasts 105 minutes. Play it loud!

There all here (although i do wish Ferry would play 'Slave to Love' in his set nowadays) and boy are they great. The whole band really gives it, its all, and i'd pay £150.00 for this DVD if that's what it cost (its that good).
Ferry's Voice, enthusiasm, presence are all 100%, the band are 100%, and its great, im only 23, and i think that if 1/2 the bands out there nowadays had the charisma of this guy rthen music wouldbe alot more fun.

Bought this as a second hand DVD from Zoverstocks. Absolutely brilliant service and for £3.50 delivered a real steal.
As a concert to turn up the volume sit back and join in Roxy are fantastic.
The hits keep coming a most enjoyable listen, not looked at the extra documentary on the DVD all I wanted was a quality music event to listen to and I've got it.
Recorded at the Apollo 2001, the film and sound quality are very good on the normal DVD.
