About the Author

Greg Harvey has authored tons of computer books, the most recent being Excel 2003 For Dummies and Adobe Acrobat 6 PDF For Dummies . He started out training business users on how to use IBM personal computers and their attendant computer software in the rough and tumble days of DOS, WordStar, and Lotus 1–2–3 in the mid–80s of the last century. After working for a number of independent training firms, he went on to teach semester–long courses in spreadsheet and database management software at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. His love of teaching has translated into an equal love of writing. For Dummies books are, of course, his all–time favorites to write because they enable him to write to his favorite audience, the beginner. They also enable him to use humor (a key element to success in the training room) and, most delightful of all, to express an opinion or two about the subject matter at hand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dummies Could Do More! 23 Dec 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
A good reference book for the beginner - well laid out and easy to follow. However, pity they didn't read "Proofreading for Dummies" before publishing...the "Cheat Sheet" has incorrect chapter references and the first section I read (creating audio CDs) referred me to a Figure drawing which had nothing at all to do with the particular sub-topic and the correct Figure described in the text was nowhere to be found. This book could also benefit from a troubleshooting section at the end of each chapter (ie if something doesn't work here's some things to check) - something I'm sure new users would appreciate. The author certainly knows the product and I think that causes him to miss out some of the very basic practical advice on things that beginners wouldn't know eg: it's best to use a CD-R disc for creating audio CDs to play on stand alone CD players rather than a CD-RW disc even though the Roxio software clearly indicates you can use a CD-RW disc (CD-RW discs won't work on many home/car CD players). But gripes aside I found the book very useful and a worthwhile addition to my bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to Media Processing 17 Jan 2005
By John Matlock - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book starts with three basic assumptions:

First it presumes that you have or can acquire some sort of digital media which may be audio, photos, or video.

Second, it presumes that you have some kind of computer running Windows 2000 or XP, and the capability to record on CD's or better yet DVD's.

Third, there is the presumption that you want to take the digital media you have, alter it, modify it, combine it with other data, and produce some kind of media.

Most of the book is of tutorial format, that is, it leads you through various projects using a step-by-step approach. All of the major components of the Creator package are discussed. And then in the standard Part of Tens section that is common to most For Dummies books, this is turned around just a bit by looking at each of the ten components that make up the package to give you a better starting point when you have a project in mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good help. 24 Dec 2009
By S. Bloyd - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
As usual I love my "Dummies" books. This book helps you understand the complex program of my Media Creator in terms that I understand. I look for Dummies books for everything to help me know fun shortcuts and facts that the original manufacturer does not include in their instructions. Very helpful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Roxio Easy Media Creator a good start 2 Aug 2005
By J. Franks - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
It's a decent book for one of the many CD/DVD media software programs, however the help panels are just as informative.

Now if they only wrote a book using Nero 6 Ultra Edition, the field would be widend.
