Moody, mellow, emotional, gruff, upbeat, it's no surprise that the single album teaser by RoXi and the Blue Cats is already climbing swiftly up the Reverbnation Charts since it's release! The band have included an interesting mixture of their own original songs and sensitively done cover versions of popular tracks.
From the opening Blue Cats Strut with it's moody pounding drums followed by the driving beat of the single Lotus Elise Blues shows the band are taking no prisoners. Their cover versions are sensitively performed in their own inimitable style. I love the rockier feel to Rock Me Right (Thomas Jay Hambridge/Susan Tedeschi) and rumba to swing changes on Woke Up This Morning (BB King) but it is the hypnotic beat of Built for Comfort (Willie Dixon), haunting vocals on The Chain (Fleetwood Mac), stratospheric vocals on Big Mamma Thornton's Ball & Chain (also performed by Janis Joplin), and powerful expressive emotional rendering of their original When Baby Gets The Blues that catch the breath and provide a glimpse of singer RoXi's range and power whilst the original uptempo jazzy Blue Cats Boogie gets feet tapping and bodies bopping. Packed with catchy riffs, interesting bass lines and sensitive sizzeling guitar for a unique blend of the blues.
I love every track of the album as well as the striking, fun cover art which is echoed on the actual picture CD and recommend this to anyone who loves the blues / british blues / blues rock / jazz blues.
