As an artist and tutor I can thoroughly recommend all of the books dealing with Rowland Hilders work and this one is no exception. If you are keen to learn the art of watercolour, then the examples in this and the other books on Hilder, will show you every 'trick in the book' if you study them closely, especially the study of light and the effects of light in the landscape. If you observe Hilder's work you will be able to see scenes depicting the last of a way of life and a landscape that was 'England' before it was ruined by 'progress' and 'planners'. Hilder started painting in the early part of the last century and managed to capture wonderful things like the last sailing ships still operating on a commercial basis and the remnants of an agricultural landscape now almost gone forever. His technique is superb and will teach the budding watercolour artist all that is needed for successful painting.
