This is a fantastic book which takes a retrospective look into Rowan's archive over the last 30 years. I had forgotten just how many designs there has been over the years and how many great designers Rowan have been associated with. It was great to see some of the design classics alongside lesser know designs and it has really inspired me to knit one of these older vintage patterns which have now been worked in newer yarns which are still available. In particular I loved the focus on Magazine 10 which featured a young Kate Moss before she was famous. For me the Kim Hargreaves and Marion Foale designs are well worth the purchase.

I love the idea behind this book and the fact it celebrates so many years of beautiful Rowan designs. The re colouring of the older, timeless designs is particularly useful as many of the discontinued yarns are hard to get hold of today. Great to be able to revisit some of the more vintage designs knowing the yarns are available!

Was so excited to order this book as there was a pattern I had been trying to track down and the original pattern book was out of print. Also found it very interesting to read about the designers. However, great dissapointment that this appears to be the US version (did not know this on ordering) and was, initially, very confused as there are a number of knitting terms that are not the same e.g. "bind off" meaning "cast off". Felt that should have been made clear. But still a lovely book to have.

I wouldn't be seen dead in most of these.
I was really disappointed with this book. There is a section on 80s patterns, and they really are VERY 80s, and not in a good way - to me they look dated rather than retro. Read more

Can you have too many Rowan books and magazines?
I have all the magazines but it's always good to have more - the newer versions are lovely and give an idea of how to interpret older patterns in current yarns.

Only buy if you are new to Rowan patterns
Bit disappointed, found I already had most of the patterns and the Rowan story had been told many times before in knitting mags. Read more
