5 of 6 people found the following review helpful By Mr Ben Fox on 13 Sept. 2013
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
The downloadable preview/sample is a snekay one as it contains a useful sounding table of contents and no actual material. I though "ok", I'll give it a shot! £20 for an ebook is rather steep, but I am keen to get some more reading material.

...However! The Chinese in the reading sections is delivered as an image, which cannot zoom in (using Kindle Paperwhite) - the quality is grainy and pretty much impossible to read unless you get really close up. Moreso, because the Chinese is an image, you cannot add notes or highlight characters - the main aspect of studying on the go on a kindle!

Given this a 1 star as upon discovering the above I completely discarded the value of this as a kindle book (which I have). This review will not discuss any other aspects due to this point: ie it is such a show stopper that it cause a fatal 1-star review. Will try to get a refund - do not purchase unless Routledge release the Chinese text as Chinese text! :)

Chinese is barely legible in Kindle version 20 Nov. 2014
By Japrisot - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I generally like Routledge language books, but the Chinese in the Kindle version of this book is unfortunately rendered as JPEG images instead of native fonts. The images are very blurry and basically impossible to read. It is very unfortunate that Routledge chose to release a Kindle version in such illegible form. By contrast, they have very good Chinese text in the Kindle version of The Routledge Advanced Chinese Multimedia Course: Crossing Cultural Boundaries (2nd Edition), so it's not as if there is any technical reason for the problem with this volume.
I reached out directly to the publisher but was ignored, so I have no choice but to leave a negative review here. I hope Routledge quickly resolves the problems with the Kindle version of this book.

EDIT: The publisher did contact me (after this review was posted) and apologized for the poor state of the Kindle version. I didn't receive a refund from them but at least it sounds like they are now aware of the problem and (hopefully) working to rectify the situation. I will post another update if and when the Kindle version becomes acceptable, but as of now it is still useless.
