Something to suit all tastes & types of Rockabilly?,
By Graham Richards (Miélan, South of France) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Routes of Rockabilly (Audio CD)
Full marks to whoever put this nifty little package together. Depending on how far you go into the routes of Rockabilly there is something here for everyone and all the different variations of this wonderful music are covered. There is prime blues that then travels through hillbilly, western swing, rhythm & blues, country & western with the odd helping of traditional rock & roll thrown in.
Personally I always love to hear Tennessee Ernie Ford as he could cope with a variety of styles. Also featured and to the fore is the late great Hank Williams and one of the many people he inspired, ( and yes he is my personal favourite) Jerry Lee Lewis this time branching over into the country & western field. Enough said really the artists and the tracks say it all. This is another car CD which will be played on those long car journies that we make here in France. For any of your friends/family who might be interested in this type of music, well this is an excellent place to start them off.

"Well 'ard" rocking music,
By Mr. Alan Shaw "LOUDER, LOUDER, LOUDER!!!!!!!!... (Somerset, England) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Routes of Rockabilly (Audio CD)
I wish reviewers would get there facts right. Graham Richards says Jerry Lee "branched over" into c and w music. WRONG! He always was a c and w singer who then sang rockabilly and r and r. A great compilation, with lots of excellent tracks and a great price too. Sod the neighbours, wind up the volume and ROCK!!!!!!!!!

Rocky and Billy Music,
By George B. Feist "DukeoftheDiscs" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Routes of Rockabilly (Audio CD)
Rocky and Billy music is how Johnny Burnettes son described how he said tongue in cheek is parents named the genre...after Johnny and Dorseys sons... People would come into the place they were playing and see the sons...Rocky and Billy and say..."play some of that Rocky and Billy" music......I love rockabilly no matter the legend or the truth and this cd has been put together with some of the best and first versions of classic songs. Great compilation. While I had alot of the songs, I had to have the packet and loved the liner note card too. If you are starting out diggin this kind of music this is the place to start..ROCK ON...Duke
