I bought this D.V.D. as a present for my brother who is an avid fan of both Tony Hawkes and Ireland. He was really looking forward to viewing this film as he had read the book several times .I'm sorry to say that he was disappointed in the film as there wasn't as much of Ireland's beautifull scenery as he had hoped. He enjoyed the book far better.

If you have read the book and enjoyed it (like myself), then spare yourself from this steaming pile of ego massaging. The charm of the book is nowhere to be seen on this film. The book was a laugh out loud tale of man and fridge in perfect harmony as they discover that there is indeed a lot of love in the world (well Ireland).

Hawks plays himself and could sprout branches as he is that wooden. The same could be said for all the cast, many of which are comedians (although you won't be laughing). Great chunks of the book have been left out of the film and characters have been added to give a love interest. The result is one of the worst films made in the last 10 years with a script that is weak and lacking any depth. Just like the characters in this disaster.

Buy the book and avoid this truly awful movie.

Tony Hawks, a British comedian, actor and author took a drunken bet one night that he could hitch-hike around the coast of Ireland with a fridge in tow. He did it and wrote a best selling book about his adventure. The book tells of the wonderful array of characters he met on his travels, the places he visited, some good, some bad, and how something so normal as a small fridge managed to become some sort of beacon of hope for humanity. The book, in short, is an often hilarious read that quite possibly ranks as one of the finest human interest stories written in the comedy field.

The film is awful. Containing neither the feel or many of the joyous instances in the book, Hawks` film version is propelled by a heavy reliance on romance and a distinct lack of comedy. Skip it and read the book instead. 2/10
