This book is an evocative, passionate read from the first lines of Robert Millar's introduction, through to the last page. It captures the romance and magic of the TdF for those of us who've watched the race on TV or at French roadsides, or have felt inspired enough by the pros to keep pushing our own bikes round the roads of home. The book is packed densely with facts, but there is a strong story line through all chapters, which makes it an easy, compelling read. The subject matter is UK cyclists in the Tour, a tale that needed to be told, but there are many references also to brilliant Irish riders who have been their colleagues. The cycling community of these islands can be proud of its contribution to the greatest race on earth, and William Fotheringham shows why. A great present for a cycling friend, or a must-buy for cyclists with no presents due.
