Ideal Guide to a Great Country 10 Feb 2006

This is a really useful guide to Slovenia, a tiny but beautiful corner of Europe tucked between Austria, Italy and Croatia. The author covers all the main attractions in enough detail to let you make informed decisions about visiting them and his general notes on history, culture, grub etc. are illuminating and interesting. Perhaps a touch more detail on bars and restaurants would have been helpful but I guess space is an issue.

It's good value and will brief you on everything you need to know for a visit to one of the continent's best kept secrets.

My impressions of the book after a week in Slovenia 15 May 2010

The book feels updated and gives a good overview of the country and the places to visit. What I also like about it is that it gives you a good amount of background information to the country of Slovenia, and provides comparative analyses of the country with regard to the other nations on the Balkan pennisula.

In short, the books feels up to date and the writer clearly has good insights into, and knowledge of, Slovenian society, culture and history.

Best Travel Series I've Found 25 July 2011

I wish I knew about Rough Guides sooner! I've used almost every other major guidebook brand, but now that I've used Rough Guides, I don't imagine I will ever use anything else. In my opinion, it far exceeds other brands in terms of the detail and breadth of the content, including the practical--hotels, restaurants, activities, language etc. and perhaps less practical but to me just as important, historical information. This is a very dense and useful guidebook.
