Product Description

Product Description

"The Rough Guide to the Gambia" should prove a useful companion for a visit to Africa's most accessible country. Detailed maps and plans are complemented by expert and upbeat guidance on the beaches, villages and music, the mangrove creeks and the Gambia River itself. There are first-hand reviews of pretty much every accommodation, restaurant and bar option in the country, both on and off the beaten track and for everyone from shoestring travellers to luxury tourers. The guide is also full of trademark candid insights into Gambian history, politics, music, language and culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any traveller to The Gambia, 10 Jan 2005

Quite simply, this changed the way I holidayed in the Gambia. I have been on previous occassions and followed my rep's advice or locals' suggestions.... but this brought me the freedom to explore so much more.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend that you buy this book, whether you are going for a week's winter sun or a month cycling though central or eastern Gambia or doing community work for many months.
The only negative is it's slightly out of date as the beaches around Kololi are now restored and several new restaruants, bars and hotels are now open!

A wonderful guide to a fantastic country!

5.0 out of 5 stars the gambia, 6 Oct 2011
This review is from: The Rough Guide to The Gambia (Rough Guide Travel Guides) (Paperback)
Thank you so much for this book on the gambia. It has given me a lot of information for my up coming visit in november. I am looking forward to the trip all the more having had an insight through this book.
I know have an idea of temperature to expect, what sort of food to expect and a bit about the culture. This book also gave an idea of type of clothing needed for the trip being in a new country obviously there are religious and customary dress. Cant wait for trip now.
