4.0 out of 5 stars Rough with some smooth edges, 6 Jun 2001
By A Customer
Unusually for a travel-guide, I managed to read the 'Rough Guide to Florida' from beginning to end. For this fact alone, I must applaud the author for keeping me entertained with informative and interesting snippets of information.

The communication style of the book is in-keeping with the, now well-established, format of the 'Rough Guide' series, being concise and honest in it's appraisal of the area(s) reviewed.

If I have to make a critical comment, it would be that it appears that the author is rather biased towards Miami, with the detail being more exhaustive for this area than any other part of Florida. This seems rather strange seeing that there is a 'Mini Rough Guide to Miami and The Florida Keys' as part of the same series.

My advice, do not make the same mistake as me and buy both, but buy this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars "Rough Guide" is a cut above, 28 Aug 2000
By Andrew T. Burns - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Florida: The Rough Guide (Rough Guide Travel Guides) (Paperback)
The "Rough Guide" series is primarily intended for a British/Australian audience, but American readers will nevertheless find them very good resources. In fact, the different perspective may make it more valuable than the Fodors/Frommer's standards. The Guide for the Sunshine State is no exception. Much more honest and balanced than most guides, it pulls no punches and comes off genuine in its recommendations. When the writers don't care for something, they say so. It's a refreshing change from the glossy chamber-of-commerce copy that is typical in most travel guides. While nothing revolutionary, this series is definitely a cut above the norm.

5.0 out of 5 stars great and useful!, 24 Jun 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Rough Guide to Florida (Rough Guide Travel Guides) (Paperback)
Rough Guides are really good at telling it like it is and the Florida one is no exception. I had it on a recent trip with me and it never led me astray.
