It's not a bad book but some pieces of information are left out. We just got back from Luxor and more detail about what to expect would have been nice. It's great to hear about the history of Egypt and Luxor but some badly needed candor is in order about the environment once you leave a resort.
Details about what to expect when you arrive somewhere and what services are offered would be nice. For example, the book did not let you know there would be a bazar and a small cafe at the Valley of the Kings.
I also did not like the having to flip all around through the book because something was covered elsewhere in a box. I didn't really like the format. It wasn't very intuitive.
The maps weren't that good and the book could use some more pictures.
A little more on the recommended hotels would be nice.

Not too bad, but not the best one I've read.
Plenty of historical detail but not enough substance regarding what you will encounter whilst you are in Egypt, including the people and facilities.
I also wasn't keen on the layout which I found somewhat clumsy.
Having said that, the currently reduced price makes it a reasonable buy.

I am a long term user of Rough Guides but this is definitely not one of the better ones. When street names are mostly in Arabic it is important that the maps are good and show all major landmarks. Most maps that I used could have been better. I have some doubts about the distance scale on some maps.
The overall map of Cairo was difficult to link with the more detailed maps of, for example, Islamic Cairo. The description of Islamic Cairo was difficult to follow and linking the three maps was even more difficult.
Part of our holiday coincided with the recent political events although in Luxor we never felt in any way at risk. However with no internet I turned to the Rough Guide for a contact number for the British Embassy for use in emergency. I eventually found it on page 205. This sort of information should be in the index.
