I bought this book for a recent holiday in Dorset having never visited the area before and looking for some guidance. It provided a fantastic insight to some hidden treasures that wouldn't have been discovered without it (derelict Tyneham Village and the Square and Compass pub in Worth Matravers, for which the book was truly accurate - right down to the chickens in the pub garden!). It follows the typical Rough Guide format and has few photos, but the detail it provides is true to life and informative. If you are new to the area as I was, I would thoroughly recommend it to get the most out of your visit.

I've been buying Rough Guides for about 20 years and I'm never disappointed. This one was great for a week's holiday in Dorset. It covered all the main towns and attractions, gave good suggestions for places to eat, and let us know what to expect - very important when travelling with two small children. My only criticism, if I have one, is the slightly random pairing of Dorset with Hampshire and the IOW. I would've preferred Dorset with Somerset and/or Devon.

Book was "ok" .. some parts were out of date as in opening times for cafe's and resturants and only limited reviews of pubs. Would be beneficial to put in postcodes of places for sat nav users and we did spend time trying to find places being caught in one way systems.

A good book but could be improved by introducing Post Codes by the addresses of the Hotels & Inns.It would make the setting of Sat. Navs. Read more
