Product Description

Product Description

Madrid Directions gives you the best of this dynamic city in an easy-to-use format. The "Ideas" section helps you plan your trip with full-colour spreads covering the variety of attractions Madrid has to offer, from the best places to eat and drink to specialist museums. The "Places" section breaks the city down into convenient areas, each chapter exploring a particular district, with eating, drinking and shopping options along with a run-down of the sights. "Essentials" lets you know how to get around, where to change money and everything else you might need for a smooth trip, while "Language" has enough Spanish to help you make a few local friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great guide, 12 Oct 2004

This is a great guide to Madrid - my husband bought me the Time Out guide (having found the Barcelona Time Out guide very good)at the same time and I used both during a visit in March 2004, but found this one easier to use. Used this to book our whole trip - Great recommendations for hostals, bars and restaurants, not so good for tapas bars. Also, very good reviews of the art galleries (our main reason for visiting).

3.0 out of 5 stars ok - but out of date, 13 Sep 2005
The version I bought was published in 2002 and the times (and prices) have certainly moved on. I liked the book's general information overall but the taxi to/from the airport was 35euros (not 17), Santa Ana wasn't as lively or pretty as described, La Solea was at a different address and the Mandrilenos (locals) weren't as willing to help my attempts at Spanish as I was led to believe. The maps are good and the size very handy - some of the historical references and information is interesting and readable. We were glad that my companion had a different guide book so we could compare! Average.

4.0 out of 5 stars handy pocket sized guide to a wonderful city, 19 Jun 2004
great size, handy for the pocket, has all the things you need, a little inaccurate in places but generally tells you all you need to know. Great!
