5.0 out of 5 stars This is the sixth edition 13 Dec 2008
By Quack
Format:Paperback
Can't agree with the other reviewers who found the book out-of-date. On looking more closely, I see they are referring to the LAST edition, not the present one. So it's their reviews which are out of date!
Found the book helpful, particularly the parts relating to Alberta and Saskatchewan, as well as Churchill. Other guides don't cover in as much detail, particularly the more remote areas. Very informative and useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rough Guide are the best all-round guide books 29 Mar 2007
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I had the previous version of this book and found it to be a great guide so we will be buying this one as we are going in August. Rough Guide are the best - they cater for people who want to splash out as well as those on a shoestring. I am consistently disappointed with the Lonely Planet books - they don't seem to visit the places they are talking about, reviews of places often don't give any info - e.g. 'the rooms are basic but clean and start at $14'. Rough Guide are the best. Time Out Vancouver is also very good if you want to know really good boutique hotels, restaurants etc, but Time Out guides aren't really all-round guides.

By Mr BD TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
We first bought this book because it was the only one that covered all of the different areas we wanted to visit; other options required buying several books.

At over 1100 pages it is fairly heavy, so worth making note of when you pack your luggage, but it is worth it.

The amount of detail is wonderful. It contains maps, street maps, tourist information locations and opening hours, fares and prices for transport and expected rates for meals and accomodation all over Canada. Details of scenic walks and drives and things to do and visit are listed for almost everywhere we went.

What we believe let it down was the fairly negative opinions of a great number of places - it rarely seems to have anything good to say about anywhere, although it describes the places in detail every time.
Calgary as an example it says has only two things worth visiting it for - the Stampede and the Museum (which is amazing). But there is so much more to the place and we disagreed with that view. The book does detail places to eat, visit, stay and suchlike, so it doesn't ignore it.
Several areas receive the same treatment - Prince George is certainly more intersting than the book's opinion.

So, a remarkably detailed book which we find essential. Just ignore the negative attitude that abounds within it.
