I frequently buy rough guides but this one was really disappointing. A lot of the info is totally incorrect! For example in Rio it tells you you cannot just turn up to Christ the Redeemer and you have to go to a shopping mall or a ticket booth at Copacabana to get the ticket. We wasted about 3 hours doing this because the shopping mall was absolutely huge and we couldn't find the ticket office and headed to Copacabana to buy the ticket
Only to be told 'of course you can buy a ticket at the entrance!' Which i must admit it was very strange that you couldn't but you live and learn!!! The Maps are also pretty useless and so is the info on getting to Ilha Grande there are speedboats pretty much every 30 mins from Angra dos Reis. We also used for Paraty and Sao Paulo and again the info provided was pretty poor!! I don't think i'd buy another rough guide unfortunately.

This 704-page book - the 8th (print) edition of October 2014 - is an interesting and readable (the two are not always found together) guide to the South American country of Brazil. Unlike many guides, this is not a glossy booklet dotted with colourful photographs to make it look superficially attractive, but a (literally) rough guide in terms of comparative paper finishes, but well-designed and presented, with readable text, useful maps, and (well-chosen) photographs only where space allows. The excellent design and layout means that you don’t need unnecessary spot illustrations to break up column after column of small-printed data.

The Contents are
P004: Introduction (Where to go, when to go, what to see, etc.)
P026: Basics (travel, transport, accommodation, shopping, eating & drinking, and other touristy stuff)

The Guide:
P052: Rio de Janeiro
P134: Minas Gerais & Espirito Santo
P200: Bahia
P246: The Northeast
P324: The Amazon
P400: Brazillia & the Planalto Central
P436: Mato Grosso & Mato Grosso do Sul
P480: Sao Paulo
P538: The South

P634: Contexts (articles on history, arts, the Amazon, etc.)
P678: Language
P686: Index
