Delighted such an up to date version of this Rough Guide was out ready for our trip! The maps are detailed and helped us pre-plan where we would book our hotel. The information, as always expeienced in rough guides, is a great balance bewteen relevant, interesting, background history and current recomendations for places to stay, attractions and quirky places to eat etc Would like a mini version!

I found this invaluable on my trip to Barcelona, its very well tumbed now! It gives an excellent overview of the city, and good reviews of eveerything that you'd need, and ideas of where to go. The mini maps of each area are good, however it could have done with an overview map and an idea where the airport was in relation to everything... I got very lost on entering the city, buy an additional map if taking this book! The catalan phrase book at the back was also useful... I found though that some of the things in the book went by different names to the Catalan which was puzzling...

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful guide that helped our trip run smoothly 4 Jun 2010
Not knowing where to start and what to see when visiting Barcelona, I was really pleased with this guide to the city. Sections included, what to see, where to stay, brief history, useful phrases (in Spanish and Catalan) and even a section with recipes for Catalan cooking and much more. We followed the advise on many aspects and the only thing the book got slightly wrong was the inflated prices at places like Tibidabo, but even these weren't dramatically different and can be forgiven. The colour section at the front highlights a list of must-see attractions on a visit to Barcelona which we found particularly useful as we only had several days there. Don't ignore the advice on prices in the terrace restaurants on Las Ramblas (we made this mistake!!)
The metro map at the back of the book is extremely useful for planning journeys and the other maps throughout the book are quite good, however it was hard to get a feel for where you were in relation without flicking through the pages and searching for the adjoining map.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the Time Out Guide 10 April 2010
Not bad, but my sister arrived with the Time Out Guide and I soon abandoned The Rough Guide. I found that Time Out was more relevant and informed of the local scene.

4.0 out of 5 stars Essential guide to a great city 14 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
If your going to Barcelona, I don't think you could find a better book to take with you. It offers a comprehensive guide to the city, with plenty of detailed maps of the main areas that make finding attractions pretty straight forward. There are sections on everything you need to know from restaurants and bars, to cultural attractions to shopping and live music. The section on Monjuic and the Olympic village are particularly detailed, and give the traveller a well researched and presented history of the area.
Barcelona is a grand city with plenty to see and do, so if your looking for a well written and knowledgable guide book look no further than the Rough Guide to Barcelona.
