ATTRACTIVE, COMPACT, BUT GETTING OUT OF DATE,

Very useful and attractively presented city guide in the pocket-size "Directions" format. Splits the city into areas and covers the attractions, shops, restaurants etc in each area separately with a small local map. This is usually very convenient, although it can be a little tricky to plan activity that moves between adjacent areas. The main problems were that the information is now almost four years old and that details about attractions aren't always consistently presented (eg not all the museums that offer free admission on Sundays are so identified). The overall "Ideas" section that selects highlights under 19 different themes was particularly helpful.

We spent a week in Cascais and found the ideas for travelling around Lisbon first class.
There could have been a better map of the centre of Lisbon, but that's the only quibble.

Lisbon guide sort of,

I thought I was buying the latest edition of the Rough Guide to Lisbon but in fact was buying a destinations guide to Lisbon, in effect Lisbon highlights. It is not the vendor's fault but it was not want I wanted. Given what it was, the price was not exceptional either. But again it was my error to have bought it not the seller's.
