Parov Stelar never fails to deliver with his prolific releases of terrific dancefloor friendly Nu-Jazz Dance Fusion Ep's & Lp's. Many consider him to be one of Vienna's best kept secrets!

Rough Cuts is his first full album and is an absolute must for friends of smoked beats, jazz and house! After two years of hard labour and a lot of finishing touches in late-night-turning-early-morning sessions, the head of Etage Noir Recordings presents an album which deliciously floats between Old school Jazz and modern Hip Hop Break.

Different from Parovs preceding Maxis on Vinyl this long player on CD seems to be most appropriate for the dimmed light easy listening area rather than the club. Deep samples and compositions groove regardless of the actual fashion and trends and lift this album into a timeless piece of art, not worrying about any durability date.

That does not prevent a number of the tracks being danceable however!

As a first full-length release from this producer of much sought-after grooves Rough Cuts will give you a terrific introduction to his work, and may leave you hunting for more of his work!

HASH(0x8e3dcf48) out of 5 stars A gorgeous album that defies genres 17 Dec. 2005
By global music collector - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is a wonderful, sophisticated, slow-jazzy/downtempo/chill album that shines amongst the many releases of 2005. Parov Stelar is a talented composer and maker of electronic dance grooves in Austria who slowed down the pace for his first full-length release and turned out this gem.

Featuring gorgeous vocals, piano, deep, slow beats, and meticulously crafted melodies, I rate this album along with the ranks of Tosca's "Suzuki" and "Opera," and Kruder and Dorfmeister's "K & D Sessions." It really is THAT good. And I have thousands of CDs from all over the world, so for me to rank something this highly, I'm not kidding around.

Sadly, as I write this, you can't preview any of the tracks on this Amazon page. I highly recommend that you visit one of the "well-known mp3 sellers" to give this album a listen. You'll see what I mean. The tracks (there are 10 of them) are: "Sometimes" (featuring Anita Riegler), "Tell Me," "For All We Know" [great track!], "Odessa," "Psychedelic Jazz," "Kisskiss," "Red Haired Woman," "Afternoon Breaks," "I Hold You," and "The Fusion."

Once you hear this album, you'll want more of Parov Stelar. There's good news: in late 2005, he's released a second CD that's just as good as this one (if not even BETTER), called "Seven and Storm." This album, too, is better than almost anything else that came out in 2005. Enjoy!

HASH(0x8e3d9888) out of 5 stars Un gran descubrimiento 29 Oct. 2005
By Jose Luis Yanez Sempere - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD

HASH(0x8e117ae0) out of 5 stars Top-notch European electronic jazz 15 Oct. 2007
By Terrence - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Parov Stelar is one of Europe's hottest stars, unfortunately not well known in this country. The Soul Seduction internet site is the place to find all of his CD and EP's. His style is both modern and retro, with electronica, saxaphone, and an excellent female vocalist performing on several selections. The sophisticated style makes me think of groups such as The Dining Rooms and Tosca. This is one of my all-time favorite CD's.

HASH(0x8e414bc4) out of 5 stars Love It! 21 Feb. 2013

I was so excited the day this arrived. I already had listened to some of the songs online and knew I had to have it. I couldn't wait to listen more on a system with good speakers. It's hard to describe or compare this music with any other as I am knew to this sound. I guess it is jazz with light techno, but it is done very well. So many of the songs have a great beat that you can't help but move when you listen. Another reviewer on Amazon said they liked the Shine CD better. I purchased both, and for now I like Rough Cuts better but I really do like Shine as well. It's just all a matter of opinion when it comes to music. Only bummer, is that it's an import and all the information about the artist and music is in Chinese. Thank you to Amazon for packaging well and a safe arrival!

Saw a YouTube video with this stepping madly to some music I had never heard before. Did a LOT of research and found the source of the sounds. Found this band/guy and his repertoire of modern swing jazz. Not for everyone but for adventurous listeners they will find his music enjoyable.
