5.0 out of 5 stars Clear and concise blog book 1 Jan 2007
Format:Paperback
The layout and the design of the book was particularly appealling and that's what initially caught my attention. I'm not a real technical person and didn't find anything in the guide that was overwhelming or particularly challenging. Highly recommended, I just gave this book to my nephew becaues I thought it did a good job of introducing the blogosphere -- and the list of "top blogs" was pretty interesting.

This book is the only book you'll need to get you on the road to blogging. It explains very clearly what the history, present, and future of blogging are and how you make your mark. Too many tech books take so much time to read that they take away from your time doing the actual activity! This one is to-the-point and current, which many other books lack. Yang is on point with great examples. A fun, good read for you or anyone you want to introduce to the blogosphere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite Helpful 29 Dec 2006
Format:Paperback
After going through the book myself, i would have to say there is a lot i have learned about the "blogging" world. The book provides in depth the fundamentals/histroy/ and fun facts to this blogging phenomenon. The writer adds life to the bland subject matter by adding his personal touches and qwerky humor. (i imagine a short nerd with glasses writing this)

However...back to the subject matter in itself, it has proved useful to many people i have set up their own accounts with. The book has become a constant reference and on top of that provides hundreds of additional sites to surf around on on your down time.

I would recommend this book for the blogging beginner and anybody who simply wants to find out what all the buzz is about.

2.0 out of 5 stars Should be called 'Blogging for American Geeks' 28 July 2006
Format:Paperback
You virtually need a degree in computing to read the majority of this book and most of it refers to America. Or perhaps I should say you need a degree of virtual computing to be able to read sense in to this.

He tried his best to make it seem exciting, failed, and then of course the information he is saying is likely to go out of date in the next ten seconds. It's a bit like buying a book on Amstrad word processing 18 years ago.

Chapters 9 & 10 are the only ones of relevance to the Brits I think - tips on writing and how to increase traffic. And they're too short.

OK effort, OK on history and tips, but try next time to write it like it's not going to date as quickly as Kylie Minogue's hairstyle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thorough and informative 27 Aug 2012
By Doc Barbara TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is packed with information about all aspects of blogging and types of blogs; its intended audience seems to be the serious blogger. It is clearly laid out, appealing to look at and easy to leaf through and find what you want. The section headings are: the basics; the rise and rise of blogging; subscribing to blogs with RSS; blog hosts; server-side blogging; audio, video and podcasts; design and add-ons; writing tips; increasing traffic; money, money, money; journals and interests; blogging and politics; blogging and journalism; educational blogging; blogging and business; the blogroll. There is detailed advice with diagrams in each section and useful lists of worthwhile sites. Yet I did not feel it was for the complete beginner or partial technophobe; I thought you would have to be quite savvy to benefit in full and I did not find it particularly inspiring even though the author does state that blogging should be fun. I prefer the book of the same title by Antonia Chitty and Erica Douglas which makes the enterprise much more user-friendly and cheerful although Jonathan Yang could be a better buy for someone using blogs for business and money-making. (I have reviewed the other book on the Amazon site also).

2.0 out of 5 stars OK if you're an absolute beginner 4 Dec 2007
Format:Paperback
Frankly, if you already have a blog or have browsed the homepages for Blogger etc then you will know the majority of what's in this book. If, however, you're an absolute beginner with very little knowledge of all things online then this is a reasonable starting point.

It's American and would benefit from some slightly techier tips. For those, though, you're best off checking the blogging sites themselves.

All in all, disappointing for a volume in the Rough Guide series.
