I hunted this down after seeing an "Android tips and tricks" magazine in the newsagent for the princely sum of £9.99. This book is way better, at only half the price.
The "Rough Guide" is aimed at what is perhaps the typical new Android user - someone who can use a computer but is in no way a technical wizard! It starts at the beginning with an overview of what Android is, its strengths and weaknesses, and how to use it. Then there is a section on Sync, and finally a section on Apps/Widgets, with plenty of short reviews and recommendations.
Like any book on Android, it probably contains very little that doesn't exist somewhere on the web 'for free', if only you could find it. But this book is a mine of little nuggets of gold. Concise, comprehensive and accessible, it will take you from the basics to advanced tricks and customisations, save a lot of time, and give some wise advice.
It is bang up to date (Dec 2010 release) and contains 240 pocket-sized but easy-read pages.
