Designed for stand or wall mounting, this compact 2-inch deep Sound Bar offers the unbeatable combination of crystal clear audio with simple plug and play connectivity. As TV's become slimmer it is inevitable that audio quality will suffer, so you have a stunning HD picture but the audio capability of a mobile device. Welcome into your life the BAR3; never again will you struggle to hear what is being said, no more need to keep reaching for the volume control - its time to back up the crystal clear picture with crystal clear audio. Incorporating Bluetooth technology, you can effortlessly stream music from your mobile device, PC, MAC or Tablet - the BAR3 is not just a vast improvement on your TV's audio short comings, but it's a convenient high-quality Hi-Fi system as well. With 4 mid-range drivers, 2 high frequency tweeters and a wireless subwoofer, no detail in music or on the movie soundtrack will be lost. And yes, the Subwoofer is 'wireless' so no messy cable runs and just one mains plug required for instant use (plus one for the sound bar). Supplied with table mounts and wall brackets, how you listen is up to you. Rudimentary becomes complimentary.

This is great value for money, but there are some points to note for potential buyers.

Firstly, please read this if you are considering on hiding the sub-woofer. Although it is a wireless sub, it must be close (or against the same wall) as the sound bar. If not, you risk the bass cutting out intermittently, which is what happened to me. I hid the sound bar behind cabinet in my living room to maintain my clean set up, however I found the bass signal lasted for around a minute, then cut out. Having moved it, it now works perfectly.

They do mention this in the instruction manual, however its not obvious at point of purchase, as a wireless sub (in the true sense) would be great for me if I could hide it!

Secondly, once you have this operational, it’s a great bit of kit. It has a warm sound, plenty of mid-range for voice clarity and looks fantastic. I’m so glad Roth decided to allow users to dim the LED backlight. Most reviews see this LED screen as a benefit, I think it looks a tad tacky but at least you can switch it off.

I have only had it operational for around 5 hours, in that time we watched a bit of TV, blu ray movie, music through Sky TV and Bluetooth music. All worked extremely well. You may need to play around with the bass level from time to time but overall it’s a significant improvement to the speakers on an LED TV.

Before buying this I did alot of research into soundbars and I wanted a decent one below £150. Panasonic,LG,Samsung and Phillips amongst others stood out and were most common but then I stumbled onto Roth a British company. I read AVforums review(link below) who are well respect and said this was one of the best budget soundbars below £200. Having used it for a couple of day on various different things such as music, movies and sports i have been impressed so far.

Product description: Soundbar has a good design and it goes nicely with my mounted 42 inch tv as its a similar size. The wireless subwoofer is useful as i dont like messy wires and i didnt experience any break up during the time i used it so far. The digital screen is nice too and you can actually change settings and modes as it has buttons on it. Remote works fine when its close but not from far away.

TV sound: The sound quality is very good with general tv such as watching eastenders or neighbours but ofcourse people mainly buy it for movies and sports which i will go onto. Watched the opening world cup match and also the first day of the england sri lanka test match and the sound was great on both occasions.

Movies and blu ray: Played the lord of the rings and the dark knight off my ps3 to try it out and the sound was great again. The sound is good at both low and high volumes and doesnt crack or buckle with higher volumes either like other budget soundbars. Bass is good from the wireless subwoofer especially during the loud scenes the whole room shakes so it does enhance your viewing pleasure.Inputs are one digital optical in and two audio in with unfortunately no hdmi in.

Music and bluetooth: I have only tried music via bluetooth so far and compared to my budget logitech 2.

I reckon the box and packaging probably cost a much as the sound bar inside. There was no 3.5 mm to 3.5mm connector or batteries for the remote included in my box. The phono connector was there though.

Seemed to take a bit of settling down after setting up. The remote wouldn't work properly at first. All actions were delayed. The clock wouldn't set up from the remote either. It's all ok now though.

As previously mentioned, the instructions are rather vague. They don't tell you what the standby wattage is either. A rarity these days. Another point is the boom box. The Roth motif is written across the front so that the box has to lie flat rather than vertical which would look better and also take up less sideways space.

I purchased the sound bar to hopefully hear better speech as I am severely deaf. Certainly much better. I can almost manage speech without subtitles now. Depending what I'm watching. Bass wise, I can hardly hear any but that might be due to the programming of my hearing aids.

Certainly worth buying in my case.

I bought this based on the sleek look and bluetooth features and pretty good reviews it had received on audio/hifi review websites.
Nicely packaged and no damage to box on arrival.
Now this is my honest opinion.
It looks good especially the subwoofer which you can place anywhere due to its bluetooth wireless connection.
The bar itself is fairly thin in depth, easy to fit and aligned well with my LG 46in smart tv. The bluetooth pairs and connects really quickly too. Sound is very good with very clear voice definition separated from other sound, music and bass.
Bass gets a tad distorted from the sub at high volume, but this isn't unusual on mid power, mid price units like this one.
I like the way you can switch off the menu display on the bar as well so it doesn't distract while watching TV.
For me the only negatives on a system that is very reasonably priced are:
The main one being the very poor instruction and installation manual. Roth assume you would have installed one of these before and the manual wouldn't help a new user because it has no wiring diagrams which always make cable connections so quick when illustrated.
For instance I didn't know immediately which cable was the Optical Digital one over the others supplied.
Also the menu descriptions and instructions for using the remote are very brief and the remote control itself is a bit cheap looking and feeling.
But all in all pretty impressive for the price.
