Product Description

Konrad Savast is the Malykant: foremost and most secret servant of the God of Death. His job? To track down the foulest of murderers and bring them to The Malykt's Justice. No mercy. No quarter.

Out in the mists of the Bone Forest lies the body of Lady Navdina Rostikova. Wealthy, beautiful and well-liked, she was at the forefront of high society in the city of Ekamet. But somebody wanted her dead. Who wielded the poisoned knife that slew her ladyship? Konrad must discover the killer - and quickly, for The Malykt is not a patient god.

Aided by a pair of ghostly familiars, Konrad begins to investigate the truth about Navdina's life. But matters grow dangerously complicated when his identity is discovered, and the hunter finds himself hunted.

And there's a beautiful, interfering apothecary who insists on getting in his way...

This 25,000 word novella (approx. 100 print pages) is the first story in the Malykant Mysteries series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy murder mystery 24 Mar 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Konrad Savast is a man with a very peculiar mission: when someone is murdered, his job is to kill the killer. But first he has to figure out who's resposible, meaning this story is at its heart a murder mystery, albeit set in a fantasy world. The fantasy elements mesh perfectly with the mystery plot: Konrad has two spirit serpents who accompany and assist him, and his work is all at the behest of the Malykt, a cold power who has bound Konrad in his service.

I really liked the interactions between Konrad and his only friend, Irinanda (who doesn't know about his secret identity, and also has secrets and powers of her own). This is the first in the Malykant series, so I'm looking forwards to seeing how future books will develop this relationship. The bad guys were a bit less believable, but such a short format doesn't leave much space for developing all the minor characters, and this didn't really detract from my enjoyment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unusual but good story line 8 Jun 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Enjoyed all three shortish stories in this series and although unusual reading, there were good story lines in each book, including this one. Not a lot of slaughter, blood and gore as in some other books within the fantasy/magical topic range, which I find a little distasteful and rather unnecessary to be truthful.

Having read a number of stories/books by Charlotte E. English, which I have enjoyed very much, I would be happy to download more onto my Kindle.

Would definitely recommend this book to others who like this type of read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful dark read 1 Oct 2012

This book is a great story for fans of works like Ravenloft. It takes place in the dreary countryside in a world filled with assassins and poison dealers. The concept of the Malykant is interesting. It shows how no one can really escape from their evil deeds even when they try outwitting everyone else. Highly recommended read.

4.0 out of 5 stars If Harry Dresden was a Paladin in fantasy Russia 6 Sep 2012
By Angela Patton - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is something like if Harry Dresden was a Paladin in fantasy Russia. As mentioned in a previous review, the minor characters are a little underdeveloped, but given the novella length, it's understandable, and it's enjoyable regardless. It definitely made me want to read the next one in the series.
