Rossini's piano work was totally unknown to me and I purchased this SACD out of curiosity. I was taken aback by the quality of the writing. I was confronted with a genuine master at work. These pieces, all baring a very Satie-like title, are a fortunate blend of Weber (or Schubert), Chopin and Satie. All of the tracks on this disk contain something work listening twice rather than once. It is deep, witty, entertaining and never, ever pointless. Do not expect huge soul-searching pieces from tortured egotistical "artists" here, but rather the richness of the palette of emotions experienced by a human being as told by a great composer.
