5.0 out of 5 stars These are pretty nifty little speakers!, 4 Aug 2003
    By A Customer
This review is from: Ross Silver Wire free speakers (RWS870) (Electronics)
These stylish silver wireless speakers are easy to use, and offer good sound quality at a reasonable price. You can listen to your favourite music, news and even keep up with the soaps whilst making a brew ~ the transmitter will link up to any equipment that has either a pair of auxiliary outputs or a headphone socket. You can place the speakers almost anywhere in the house or garden, I found the sound quality was good, even when transmitting through two interior walls and one external wall. The speakers are very lightweight and therefore easy to move and position around the house or garden. Both speakers have volume and bass controls with an on/off switch on the front for ease of use, you also get an Auxiliary connecting cable as-well as a stereo 3.5mm phone-jack to stereo 3.5mm phone-jack. Charging takes 12 hours, which equates to 10 hours playing time - only one power adapter is supplied, so charging both units could take 24 hours for the first charge. Successive charging takes only 6 hours per unit. Rechargeable batteries are not included.

4.0 out of 5 stars Digital radio on the cheap, 29 Mar 2004
    By A Customer
This review is from: Ross Silver Wire free speakers (RWS870) (Electronics)
These work like a dream. However, be warned that the speakers each take 6 AA batteries with a predicted lifespan of 18 hours - rechargeables might be in order. The transmitter has to be plugged in and comes with an AC/DC adaptor. The speakers can be plugged in, but you have to find a suitable AC/DC adaptor for each of them.

The transmitter is very small and unobtrusive, and I don't have any reception black spots (5 rooms and a small garden). The speakers look like oversized PC speakers and have an on/off switch, volume, and bass controls. The sound is very clear, and fairly powerful too.

I bought these as a cheap alternative to a digital radio - I don't care about the supposed "digital clarity" of the sound (FM is fine for me) but was interested in the wider choice of stations. I haven't been disappointed: BBC 6 Music and XFM are a breath of fresh air. I can also connect the transmitter to my Hi-Fi or to my computer for MP3s or internet radio.

If you're thinking about a digital radio, and have Sky or Freeview, I'd strongly recommend these instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't do what is says on the tin, 10 Nov 2004
    By A Customer
This review is from: Ross Silver Wire free speakers (RWS870) (Electronics)
I've received my set of these speakers and I'm very dissappointed. There is a background hiss when they are on (even when optimally tuned). The wireless reception automatically enters into a powersave mode when there isn't any sound to be transmitted. This would be a good thing but when the computer makes a warning beep or any other little sound, the speakers come back to life with a loud pop or bang (not the actual sound it is meant to play). It's so bad that I've had to turn the speakers off.

I've emailed the vendor but have had no reply. My advice is to stay well clear of these.
