Product Description

Review

One of Stylist's nine books you need to read this year. 'The extraordinary true story of Rosemary Say...An unsentimental account of survival.' --Stylist, 19th January 2011

Terrific, a most remarkable and wonderfully atypical wartime story. --Barry Norman

This story of her horrifying imprisonment and daring escape is both frank and satisfyingly unsentimental. --Reader's Digest, April 2011

Product Description

This is the extraordinary true story of a plucky young woman and her dramatic escape from a German-run internment camp in Occupied France. Written in Rosemary's own words and completed by her daughter and son-in-law after her death, it includes photographs and documents from Rosie's incredible journey. Rosie's story moves from artistic circles in Avignon, through occupied Paris and the privations of prison camp, and across war-ravaged Europe. A tale of remarkable courage: not only of Rosie herself, but also of the many people who helped and harboured her at huge personal risk. Rosie's story sheds light on the little-known story of the thousands of British women trapped in Occupied France. Moving, enthralling, and inspirational, 'Rosie's War' is a book for all to enjoy.

Fantastic read for all 30 April 2011
By AF
Format:Hardcover
I absolutely loved this book. The book starts with Rosie, a young english woman, setting of to become an au pair in Avignon. This was in January 1939 and war with Germany was imminent. The book tells Rosie's true story; her imprisonment in two Nazi interment camps, her dramatic escape and struggle to get back to England. This is not a typical wartime story, it is absolutely extraordinary. To read a true story about the Second World War as experienced by a young woman; it was simply quite amazing. There were many moments in the book when I couldn't help but think: 'What would I have done, had I been in this situation'. Can't recommend enough, a great read for all.

Format:Hardcover
Rosie's War is a great read and a wonderful insight into the mind of a young woman at the outbreak of WW2. Rosie's personality really comes through and we see both her frailities and her strengths in coping with all the trials and tribulations of being caught up in occupied France in the early years of the war. This is an easy to read but absorbing book about real people having to manage and make the best of finding themselves in the unknown with all its dangers. The book is written with great care for both the characters and for the reader. The authors take some risks with their own sensitivities but this adds to the authenticity of the story.

Rosie's War 28 April 2011
Format:Hardcover
Not only was this book both informative and well researched with lots of interesting historical detail ,but it was also a thoroughly engaging story on a human interest level which provided me with an insight into just what it was about the character of this young woman ,Rosemary Say, which allowed her to believe that she could escape under such terrifying circumstances. The actual escape itself is an exciting mix of luck, human kindness and sheer courage.
