Get feedback to move forward. You learn best by doing, and you'll apply what you've learned to get to the next step. Rosetta Stone adapts to your individual needs and skills, because you drive the program with your progress.

Speak Confidently
Start speaking immediately. From the very first lesson, you'll speak. You'll begin with essential basics, which form the building blocks of the language. Soon you'll create new sentences on your own, using words you've learned.

Have Fun
Best of all, Rosetta Stone is addictive. With every entertaining activity, you'll feel success. You'll want to use Rosetta Stone to have that next moment, that next breakthrough. So you'll keep using it, and you'll learn more!

That's language-learning success.
That's Rosetta Stone.

No translation or memorization required.

The most effective way to learn a new language is to be surrounded by it. When you were an infant, your parents taught you this way, by intuitively associating words with images. That's the ultimate language lab, but most language-learning programs completely ignore this.

Think about all of the ways you've tried to learn a language: classes at school, tapes and cassettes, even software that uses your native language as a base for your next one. What do they all have in common? Translation and memorization.

Instead of taking a "direct flight" from your brain to your new language, translation and memorization connects you to your old language. You always have to "fly" from your brain, to your native tongue ... and then translate what you've memorized to communicate.

That might work for a few words, but what happens when you get to a sentence or phrase? When you have to change tenses? You're going to make a lot of "connecting flights." That's why those other methods are so frustrating ... and why they fail.

Enter Dynamic Immersion.
This method encourages you to think like a baby. You'll pair words with vivid, real-life images and make connections between things you know and the new language. Soon, you'll be thinking in a new language, stringing words together into phrases that you create.

Innovative technology.
Rosetta Stone places this Dynamic Immersion method at the core of a suite of software that works with you to develop your skills. The simple, intuitive interface helps to keep you engaged in the solution, while advanced speech recognition technology makes certain that you're speaking correctly and accurately. Best of all, Rosetta Stone never leaves you behind. You'll only move forward when you're ready, when you've become comfortable and confident.

Communicate and connect with the world: Level 1, 2 & 3 Set.
Rosetta Stone Level 1, 2 & 3 Set will take you on a journey from the basics to a whole new level of sophistication. You'll build a foundation of fundamental vocabulary and essential language structure. You'll quickly gain the confidence to engage in social interactions. Say "hello" and "goodbye," arrange travel, order food, go shopping and more! From there, you'll share your ideas and opinions, express feelings and talk about your life, your interests and more. You'll discover a voice. In a new language.

Audio Companion
With Audio Companion, you'll enhance the Rosetta Stone experience wherever you go. You'll learn new skills on the computer, and then reinforce what you've learned with Audio Companion. Simply play the CDs on a stereo or download them to a MP3 Player. Each Audio Companion activity corresponds to a lesson in the Rosetta Stone software, so you can turn your travel time into productive language-learning time.

Inside the box, you'll find:

  • Version 3 Personal Edition CD-ROM software for Levels 1, 2 & 3 (Windows/Mac)
  • Headset microphone
  • User's guide
  • Audio Companion, a multiple-CD set to play or download to your MP3 player

4.0 out of 5 stars A reasonable way to learn Spanish, 29 Aug 2009
This review is from: Rosetta Stone Version 3: Spanish (Spain) Level 1, 2 and 3 Set with Audio Companion (Mac/PC CD) (CD-ROM)
I travel frequently to South America and have found it frustrating that I do not know Spanish. I have spent roughly a month doing Levels 1-3 of Rosetta Stone and intend to do Levels 4-5 soon. I find the approach intuitively interesting and the program is fun to use. I had used Rosetta Stone to review French (Levels 1-3) and found this helpful as well.

The approach won't work for all. I took Latin in school when I was younger and therefore it is not an issue for me that the grammar is presented intuitively rather than formally. I still however have been using other sources as I worked through the Rosetta Stone course. In particularly I have used "Spanish for Dummies All-in-One" and a Collins Spanish book. The "Spanish for Dummies All-in-One" book has a tear-off one page sheet on conjugations which is helpful.

If you work at it hard you can definitely get through 3 levels in one month. It's a beginning. You can speak sentences and have a basic understanding. Not more. But you are ready to start harder things like reading books (with a really good dictionary). I've looked at other packages and they all have strengths and weaknesses. But as software to quickly get you to a basic level of undestanding, Rosetta Stone is hard to beat.

One problem with Rosetta Stone is the customer service is absolutely terrible. Based in India, my experience with a problem was simply that they ask you either to disable virus checkers or reinstall. You are basically on your own if anything goes wrong with the product. So you run a risk here.

2.0 out of 5 stars I've been underwhelmed by Rosetta Stone Spanish, 21 July 2009

I bought the whole package and i'm currently half way through Level 2. It's quite easy to use, and relatively enjoyable, but i don't think it's good preparation for thinking independently and working things out for yourself. I also think it works best when followed very frequently, whereas i've done it maybe a couple of times a week. Overall i have found other language tools more useful (grammar books, podcasts etc) and i don't think Rosetta Stone represents good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Got me hooked, 12 Sep 2010
This review is from: Rosetta Stone Version 3: Spanish (Spain) Level 1, 2 and 3 Set with Audio Companion (Mac/PC CD) (CD-ROM)
Once again, Amazon come up trumps, purchased and received next day.

The idea of the Rosetta Stone learning process is that you learn the language just the same way as you learnt your first language. By putting together phrases and pictures (instead of real life events) this package goes a long way towards helping learn spanish (or I assume, any other language purchased)

I had already tried other software, but the key to this software, at least for me, is that it has got me to the point where I actually want to sit down for 45 minutes every day and do the course. It sets out its goals for learning the language and seamlessly integrates the pictures with the speech. To be fair, it is not always easy to work out some of the words so I have google translate open alongside in order to word match at times, but this is probably only for about ten per sent of the words used. On the whole you can follow it. Indeed, even if you do not use the translator, you will learn the correct word as you move through the course.

There are "adaptive recalls" as well. So, when you log on next day, you are asked to go through the recall before your normal lessons continue. These recalls, as with any course you choose to re-visit, are slightly different every day. The pictures are moved during the course, so that you do not get complacent with the next phrase. You are also given your score at the end of each small module. If the score is lower than average, you can re-visit the course or continue to the next level.

Not cheap, but the best way of learning another language. But significantly, especially in the early days when you may want to give up, it keeps you wanting to learn the language the next day.

Highly recommended.
