Best of all, Rosetta Stone is addictive. With every entertaining activity, you'll feel success. You'll want to use Rosetta Stone to have that next moment, that next breakthrough. So you'll keep using it, and you'll learn more!

That's language-learning success.
That's Rosetta Stone.

No translation or memorization required.

The most effective way to learn a new language is to be surrounded by it. When you were an infant, your parents taught you this way, by intuitively associating words with images. That's the ultimate language lab, but most language-learning programs completely ignore this.

Think about all of the ways you've tried to learn a language: classes at school, tapes and cassettes, even software that uses your native language as a base for your next one. What do they all have in common? Translation and memorization.

Instead of taking a "direct flight" from your brain to your new language, translation and memorization connects you to your old language. You always have to "fly" from your brain, to your native tongue ... and then translate what you've memorized to communicate.

That might work for a few words, but what happens when you get to a sentence or phrase? When you have to change tenses? You're going to make a lot of "connecting flights." That's why those other methods are so frustrating ... and why they fail.

Enter Dynamic Immersion.
This method encourages you to think like a baby. You'll pair words with vivid, real-life images and make connections between things you know and the new language. Soon, you'll be thinking in a new language, stringing words together into phrases that you create.

Innovative technology.
Rosetta Stone places this Dynamic Immersion method at the core of a suite of software that works with you to develop your skills. The simple, intuitive interface helps to keep you engaged in the solution, while advanced speech recognition technology makes certain that you're speaking correctly and accurately. Best of all, Rosetta Stone never leaves you behind. You'll only move forward when you're ready, when you've become comfortable and confident.

Communicate and connect with the world: Level 1, 2 & 3 Set.
Rosetta Stone Level 1, 2 & 3 Set will take you on a journey from the basics to a whole new level of sophistication. 4.0 out of 5 stars It really is a better way to learn a language!, 5 Mar 2009
By Geoffrey Krause "dsch1978" (York, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As an experienced language learner (I have studied French, German, Russian and Arabic - all in the traditional classroom environment) I have been impressed with this course. I have just finished Level 1 of this 3 level set and I find myself able to recall vocabulary and complete sentences quite easily.

The software itself is very polished and easy to use and the vocabulary taught is useful for the beginning learner.

Personally, I do find it hard to rely completely on the dynamic immersion system where nothing is translated. I find myself making lists of vocabulary to study independently from the software.

I understand that Rosetta Stone use the same basic script and tweak it a bit for each specific language. This poses problems with Farsi, where basic English sentences such as "the girl is writing" or "the man is eating" are much more grammatically complex when translated. This wouldn't be problematic in languages like German where this construction doesn't exist and is simply translated as "the girl writes". It might have been better for them to introduce Farsi verb conjugation and construction differently.

Some people have complained that the voice recognition software doesn't work properly. They say that the system accepts their response even though it is obviously incorrect. This can be fixed by changing the sensitivity of the software. I have mine set at about 75% (between normal and difficult) and I find it challenging enough to make me concentrate on my pronunciation, but not too difficult as to become discouraging.

I can imagine it would be difficult to cope with the Farsi alphabet when using this software, as only very basic guidance is given. Having studied Arabic, I have had no problems. For those new to the script, it might be worth investing some time becoming familiar with it before starting this course.

I have had a problem with the writing exercises. I have difficulty finding all of the Farsi characters on the pop-up keyboard that appears on the screen. Sometimes you can press the shift key and more letters appear, but sometimes they don't. I have had to skip several of these exercises because of this. This may just be a problem with my set up.

While this review is starting to sound negative, I am being picky. Overall I am enjoying the software and I am definitely seeing results. I have also purchased their Russian software and will most likely purchase their Arabic program in the future. I would recommend this system to anyone wishing to learn Farsi or any language for that matter.
